When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot in 2018, they travelled in a carriage through the streets of Windsor – and Harry exchanged a fleeting comment to his new bride about an uncomfortable moment

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in St George’s Chapel in 2018, they stepped into their royal carriage as newlyweds and began their procession through the streets of Windsor, as thousands of adoring fans lined the street to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.

But as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex rode away, Harry made a rather embarrassing and candid comment to his new bride in a brief moment of normality throughout the royal fanfare. Following the star-studded ceremony, the couple stood at the top of the chapel’s steps and shared their first kiss as husband and wife to the sound of applause.

Then, the prince – who wore slim-fitting military trousers referred to as ‘overalls’ – made a humorous comment to his new wife as they boarded their carriage, according to royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand in their book Finding Freedom.

Describing the contrasting words from the pair, Mr Scobie and Ms Durand wrote: “Lifting her hand to her chest, Meghan had just one word when she saw the huge crowds gathered on the grounds of the castle: ‘wow’.”

“Sitting down in the carriage beside his bride, Harry laughed that his trousers were ‘too tight’.”

Expert lip readers backed up their claims, suggesting that he had made additional complaints about his military garb being slightly on the small side while waiting to greet Meghan at the altar.

It was previously claimed that while the Duke stood anxiously at the end of the aisle in anticipation of his bride, he turned to his brother and best man, Prince William, and said: “I’m alright,” before joking: “my trousers are too tight.”

The lip readers also suggested that as the horse-drawn carriage finished its climb up Windsor’s Long Walk, Harry quipped to Meghan: “I’m ready for a drink now.”

Another striking moment caught by lip readers on the big day showed Meghan seemingly dropping the ‘F-bomb’, as Meghan turned to Harry while in their horse-drawn and seemingly said, “Oh f***!” as she put her hand over her chest.

Social media went into a frenzy as viewers began to question what had just occurred, with some suggesting she had been so overwhelmed by the occasion, it had just slipped out.

The Daily Star claimed she “couldn’t be blamed for her reaction” as she was faced with “incredible scenes” of thousands of fans screaming her name.
