The Hollywood A-lister and his wife have bought a house in an affluent London suburb
He’s sent pulses racing in Drive and teenage hearts fluttering in Barbie. But Ryan Gosling may have just broken London with his latest move.
The Hollywood A-Lister, 44, is reported to have bought a house in leafy Hampstead with wife Eva Mendes, bringing their daughters Esmerelda, 11, and Amada Lee, nine, in tow. And it seems Gosling’s turn at the school gates may have just sent mothers into overdrive as they dropped off their children. One elated member of the public took to Threads to describe her impromptu run-in with the star.
She wrote: “Today’s unexpected adventure, Ryan Gosling holding the door open for me at a cafĂ© in West Hampstead. What a gent!…Quite unexpected really!”
Elsewhere, the Mail on Sunday reports that Gosling’s gallant manners and good looks have charmed the parents of his daughters’ school, with mothers said to be “practically drooling over him”.
Gosling and wife Eva met on the set of 2012 thriller Place Beyond The Pines and lived together for years as a family until finally tying the knot in 2022. The Canadian actor, who was Oscar-nominated for playing Ken in the Barbie blockbuster, is known for musical La La Land, and romance The Notebook.
He is currently in the UK filming the latest instalment in the Star Wars franchise at Elstree and Pinewood Studios, titled Star Wars: Starfighter. But insiders say Gosling and his wife chose to move to the UK to remove themselves from the political climate in the US under Donald Trump.
He’s far from the only stateside star to have crossed the pond, as fellow Barbie star America Ferreira is also said to be living in south west London. Meanwhile, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is happily ensconced in the Cotswolds with wife Portia de Rossi.
Gosling’s new Star Wars project is set to be released in two years’ time, and will be a “standalone story”, meaning the action will not follow the main storyline of the Skywalker family or sequels starring British actress Daisy Ridley. The movie comes from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, and is set for a May 2027 release.
Gosling said: “The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”
Gosling revealed he had Star Wards bedsheets as a child, adding: “I guess I was probably dreaming about Star Wars before I even saw the film. And it’s probably framed my idea of what a movie even was.”
