Asda customers can currently manage their prescriptions and order medicines for home delivery online, but soon shoppers will be able to order prescriptions for collection in stores

Asda has announced plans to offer an online prescription service online and in stores, in a UK supermarket first.

The grocery chain has partnered with online pharmacy firm, Pharmacy2U, for the new initiative. Asda customers can currently manage their prescriptions and order medicines for home delivery at pharmacy.asda.com. But the new service will also allow shoppers to order prescriptions for collection at 232 Asda branches at a later date.

Faisal Tuddy, Asda Pharmacy Head of Pharmacy, & Superintendent Pharmacist, said: “By launching this platform, we are now able to reach even more Asda customers across the country, some of whom may not have an Asda Pharmacy nearby. We know how important it is for families to be able to simply access their repeat prescriptions without having to worry. This expansion ensures greater convenience for our patients, who can now easily access these services online.”

Kevin Heath, CEO of Pharmacy2U, said: “At Pharmacy2U, we’re committed to making healthcare easily accessible for the whole family. We are incredibly proud to have partnered with Asda to now bring our online prescription services to a place of ease for their customers. Supermarkets play a huge role in daily life making this a natural, yet exciting next step for patients.”

It comes after Lloyds Pharmacy axed all 237 of its pharmacy services from Sainsbury’s stores in 2023. Lloyds said the cut to its services followed a recent strategic review where it blamed “changing market conditions”. Kevin Birch, chief executive officer of Lloyds, said last year: “This decision has not been an easy one and we understand that our patients and customers may have questions about how the change will affect them.

“We would like to thank them for their continued support and assure them that we are committed to providing a smooth transition over the coming months. I am very grateful to all our colleagues for their dedication to our patients, customers and communities.”
