The American man who has been living in London for four years now decided to give the iconic British staple another try after his previous experience left him slightly underwhelmed
It’s quite common for Americans to travel across the pond and start a new life here in the UK. Of course some stuff is different, like our food shopping experiences, as well as our famous pub culture.
Generally, there are a lot of similarities, like we both talk in English for starters. But when it comes to food, we don’t always speak the same language as one American recently experienced. TikTok user @kjordyyy, who has been living in London for four years, recently made it his plan to give pie and mash another try so shared the results with his 280,000 followers.
After venturing to Clapham Junction, the influencer stepped inside the Golden Pie for a good grub.
In the clip, which garnered 1,100 likes and dozens of comments, he said: “England please don’t let me down. Your boy tried pie and mash last year and safe to say it wasn’t the best. But I give everything a second chance, let’s get it.”
He visited the restaurant and was instantly amazed by the “warmest welcome of jelly and stewed eels”.
“I think I’m good to go,” the American added. “Then the dude asked me liquor or gravy and I just felt like there was only one right answer.”
But he didn’t know what the difference was between the two, so asked the man serving him who replied: “Liquor is the parsley one.”
The influencer didn’t want to take any risks so opted for the gravy with his pie and mash before taking a seat inside to tuck in.
He detailed: “The food came and you know what, it didn’t look half bad but I had to have a quick start off with the pie to let it know who’s boss.
“And upon having the first bite, it was actually pretty tasty just very temperature hot though.
“I was trying to genuinely figure out why I liked it so much this time I think it was because the crust is actually super flakey and it almost reminds me of a consistency of like a pot pie.”
But when it was all going great, @kjordyyy hit into an obstacle as he admitted: “One thing that sadly remained the same, the sussness of the beef but lo and behold we did crush and finish it all.
“Not too bad we just finished, it was way better than I expected and I really think it’s because I got the gravy sauce instead of the liquor sauce.
“It could have been a bit thicker but it was still pretty tasty, I gotta give it a 7/10, not bad at all, hopefully my stomach doesn’t hurt after this.”
Since he shared his honest verdict, many people rushed to the comments section. One said: “I don’t like liquor – not a parsley fan at all! Gravy all the way.” While another added: “You’re starting to even look British now. One of us!”
Meanwhile a third slammed: “London pies are the worst example of British pies. Get a Great North Pie Company one or even a Pieminister and you’ll see they’re miles better.”
