Sources close to the King have confirmed that the formal process of stripping the remaining titles and honours from Andrew has been supported by the wider family

It was King Charles’ decision to strip Andrew of all his royal titles, but the monarch had the support of the wider royal family, who were actively involved in ongoing discussions leading up to the announcement.

The former prince, whose friendship with convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein led to his downfall, will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

Buckingham Palace released the official announcement on Oct. 30, stating, “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.” However some people are speculating Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton were part of the decision.

“I would think the Queen had a hand in that,” the source told PEOPLE. “There would have been a push from Camilla and Catherine, and there was pressure from William, who would not want to inherit the headache.”

Adding, “There was pressure from William, who would not want to inherit the headache. It was a family decision. It was quite strong, and I was quite proud when I heard it.”

In addition to losing his royal titles, Andrew is also losing his royal accommodations at Royal Lodge in Windsor. He will be relocating to an unnamed property on the royals’ Sandringham estate. A palace source told PEOPLE that it is unlikely that he will be joined by his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, even though the two had been living together at Windsor for many years.

King Charles has given accommodation for Andrew on the Sandringham Estate after the disgraced royal was told he has to leave the Royal Lodge but the locals appear unhappy.

Andrew had tainted the reputation of the royal family with his association with Epstein and, for many years, was dogged by allegations he sexually abused Virginia Giuffre, who took her own life in April, after she was trafficked by the financier. He has strenuously denied the allegations.
