The late Queen’s corgis, Sandy and Muick, were taken in by Andrew and ex-wife, Fergie after her death – and now it has been revealed what will happen to the dogs now the pair are leaving Royal Lodge
After being stripped of his titles, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor is also being forced out of his Royal Lodge home. The disgraced former prince will leave his 30-room mansion as soon as practically possible to go and live privately on his older brother King Charles ‘ Sandringham estate following more revelations over his links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
In an unconventional arrangement, the ex-Duke of York lived with his former wife Sarah Ferguson in the property, and she is now having to find her own place to live – and won’t join Andrew in Norfolk. But Fergie isn’t the only resident of Royal Lodge, along with Andrew – so are the late Queen’s corgis, Sandy and Muick.

The dogs were given to Andrew’s late mother as a gift by him in her final years, and at her funeral in September 2022, they took part in the processsion, watching their owner’s coffin pass by.
After her death, Andrew and Sarah took in the pets, with the pair appearing in several Instagram posts with Fergie. She even talked about them during an appearance on This Morning and revealed how they missed the former monarch.
With the formerly married pair now moving from Royal Lodge, many have asked what will become of the dogs. And it appears Buckingham Palace have said that they will “remain with the family”, according to the Independent.
But despite the update, it is unclear who they will exactly go to live with – Andrew, Fergie or their daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
Once the lengthy process to untangle Andrew from his lease of Royal Lodge in Windsor, he will move to the Sandringham estate, which is owned privately by the King.
It is unclear exactly which of the estate’s 150 properties he will live at, with several mooted as possibilities, such as Park House, where the late Princess Diana was born, and current holiday let Gardens House.
Meanwhile, it seems any compensation Andrew might have believed he was entitled to for leaving Royal Lodge will not be forthcoming.
According to reports, most of his half a million pound compensation for giving up his lease on Royal Lodge will be denied. The monarch’s disgraced brother was due a payout of £558,000 from the Crown Estate after agreeing to quit the mansion.
But a royal source admitted there is “a lot of work that needs doing” to the property in Windsor Great Park, and the cost of repairs is likely to affect the amount of compensation he receives, The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported.
The annual payment will be worth several times his £20,000-a-year Navy pension, The Guardian newspaper reported. It is understood that the King will use private funds to cover the cost, but not his Duchy of Lancaster income.
Andrew’s Sandringham move is not believed to be happening until the New Year – meaning the Royal Family can avoid any awkward run-ins with him over Christmas.
