Elderly man fighting for his life after ‘street robbery outside post office’ in Enfield

A 40-year-old man has been charged in connection

A man in his 70s is fighting for his life in hospital a week after an alleged robbery in Enfield. The pensioner was found with severe head injuries outside Ponders End Post Office, on High Street, shortly after 11am on Thursday, October 30.

The Metropolitan Police believe he was assaulted during a mugging and have arrested a man in connection. Jaesis Boatswain, of Swan Walk, was apprehended on Tuesday, November 4 and charged with four counts.

The 40-year-old is accused of grievous bodily harm without intent, assault, robbery and threatening a person with a sharp object in public. He appeared at Highbury Magistrates’ Court earlier today (November 6) and was remanded into custody.

The North Londoner is due to appear again at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday, December 10. Detectives have since launched an appeal for information about the daylight incident.

Feryal Clark, the MP for Enfield North, said she is “deeply concerned” by the elderly man’s injuries and urged witnesses to contact police as soon as possible.
