A disgraced teacher from a school near East London has been banned from the profession after they did a naked photoshoot with a child.

Mark Overland, 50, a teacher at King Harold Business and Enterprise Academy, in Waltham Abbey, messaged the victim, who was not his student, on Instagram, claiming he already had a hotel room booked and a model had cancelled, a teacher misconduct panel heard. The child victim said Overland had driven her to a hotel for the shoot and bombarded her with sexual questions. Overland, also told his victim that ‘10 out of 10 would f**k,’ having asked if they ‘watch porn’, the panel heard on 10 October.

He also asked about how often they ‘masturbate’ and that she should ‘make it look like you want to be f***ed’. During the shoot Overland told the victim to tell a loved one they were okay, during this phone he took off their top, causing them to ‘freeze’.

The teacher misconduct report reads: “She froze during the photo shoot as she did not ‘know how to react’ to Mr Overland touching her or how to cope with the situation. She wrote that she did not know him and what he would do if he was upset.”

He then proceeded to offer her a jumper in return for performing oral sex. Overland was also found to have used his hands to adjust and pull their underwear to one side so that their genitalia were on show. He then tried to justify the behaviour by saying ‘don’t worry it won’t be in the photos and ‘the photos will be between you and me’. He denied moving the underwear during his police interview.

During the photoshoot Overland grabbed his victim from behind and began ‘dry humping,’. He eerily told his victim not to ‘ah don’t do that pose it make me wanna’.

The panel concluded: “The panel considered that engaging in such behaviour was sexually motivated. The panel concluded that there was no plausible innocent explanation for Mr Overland’s conduct, and that there were various sexual events that occurred during his time in the hotel room with [the victim]. The panel noted in particular that Mr Overland had continued to make sexual comments and act inappropriately repeatedly during the time he was with [the victim], and by asking to perform oral sex on [the victim] he was acting in a way to achieve sexual gratification.”

The hearing – which Overland did not attend – ruled that he is to be banned from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children’s home in England.
