Princess Kate’s ‘steely’ approach to royal life could be the key to ensuring the survival of the monarchy itself, amid ongoing scandals surrounding Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, an expert has claimed
Princess Kate’s “steely” positioning of herself as the royal “huntress” has left one royal expert seriously impressed. When Kate joined the Royal Family officially upon her marriage to Prince William, much was made of her middle-class background, with the union marking the first time a future King had wed outside the aristocracy.
This background might be one of the keys to her success as a member of the House of Windsor, a royal expert has claimed, providing her with a “steely determination” and a guardedness that enables her to see potential threats to the monarchy and avoid getting too close to those who don’t have the best interests of the institution at heart.
The Princess of Wales was last seen with the disgraced Sarah Ferguson at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral – where she visibly gave Sarah the cold shoulder in front of the cameras.
Prince William did similarly to his errant uncle, the former Prince Andrew, who was unceremoniously struck from the official roll of the peerage by King Charles. His big brother made a blistering statement “censuring” his brother and throwing his support behind the “survivors of any and all forms of abuse.” Andrew was seen at the funeral trying, and failing, to engage his nephew William in conversation, but the future King was frosty in his responses.

Royal expert Tessa Dunlop, writing for the Independent, claimed that Kate’s status as an outsider, who spent many years vying for acceptance, is key to her ability to identify what the monarchy needs to do to ensure it survives. Something that those, like Fergie – whose family was always close to the royals before her marriage – fail to understand.
Dunlop wrote about how this played out on the public stage at the funeral, “The sharp contrast between the two women was eye-popping, Kate’s arch face a fitting riposte to the already sombre day. Dubbed the ‘protective huntress’ by one royal-watcher, once more the Windsors’ meticulous player had fended off danger, her poise and ice-queen exterior the alchemy that has led to this new alpha epitaph.
“Huntress Kate, the untouchable royal charm, silently signalling that enough is enough. Yards away on the same step, William mirrored his wife’s behaviour in the face of Andrew’s buffoonery.” The expert added, “Kate has always played the long game, and both she and her husband have a brutal, steely streak.”
It has been widely reported that William has played a key role in his uncle Andrew’s downfall. Royal author Omid Scobie claimed in his book Endgame, that it was William who tipped the scales towards the late Queen finally taking firm action against her favourite son back in 2022. Andrew’s accuser, the late Virginia Giuffre, had launched a civil case against Andrew in the US, and William’s determination was key in decisive action finally being taken – Andrew was stripped of his royal patronages, honorary military positions, and forced to fight the case as a “private citizen”.
Andrew settled out of court with Giuffre, reportedly for millions, but continues to deny her claims that he sexually assaulted her three times when she was a 17-year-old. Author of an explosive biography about Andrew and Sarah, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York – Andrew Lownie – told the Mirror exclusively that William likely played a key role in the recent denouncement of Andrew from the palace, “stiffening” the King’s “resolve”.
Kate does not take the monarchy for granted, Dunlop wrote, nor its future as a sure thing, enabling her to “see off” those who might pose a lingering threat to its wellbeing. This included her “studied coolness towards Meghan [that] is indicative of the couple’s wariness of a newcomer who appeared to neither understand nor value the institution they cleave to.”
