A woman was left baffled after waking to the noise and sight of a lengthy drill bit emerging through the floor of her brother’s flat without any warning from his neighbour

Most of us have had gripes and disputes with our neighbours at some point in time, but for one woman this has reached a whole new level. Evelyn Amsdell was left pondering the legality of the bizarre actions of someone residing directly below her brother’s flat.

“This cannot be legal?” she wrote in a caption alongside a TikTok video. “If you think your downstairs neighbours are bad… imagine waking up to them drilling into your bedroom.”

Indeed, Evelyn’s short clip showed a lengthy drill bit emerging her through her sibling’s carpet, narrowly missing his dehumidifier an inch to the right. The video, which has subsequently gone viral, amassing a staggering 11 million views, prompted scores of TikTok users to question why the neighbour would continue drilling long after piercing the flooring.

“What are they drilling for, oil?” one baffled person questioned. A second asked: “Why are they still trying to drill further?”

A third person was more pragmatic, however, stating: “Maybe I’m an idiot but to be honest I would probably assume it was an accident. No need to call the police, maybe just try to talk to your neighbours or landlord? Stupid people aren’t always malicious.”

Whilst a fourth TikTok user pointed out: “That’s so dangerous, even if it was a mistake, a pet or person could have been there.”

And a fifth claimed: “Looks like they’re going for what ever is vibrating the s*** out of their place. But they missed. Please put some type of anti-vibration pad under your fans, dehumidifier or air purifier. You’ll be surprised what it sounds like under them.”

Evelyn later returned to TikTok, meanwhile, after receiving an explanation.

“Update on the drill in my brother’s floor situation,” she wrote alongside another video showing a letter taped to the door. “Got notice they’re [construction workers] coming into his unit to install the exhaust vent.

“They want the vent to go up through his ceiling and dry wall it in. Not to worry, his landlord assured him he won’t have to pay for the damages!”

The letter advised that construction would take place over the course of two days in November and would be completed in the “common area hallways and to your individual unit”. It concluded: “Construction to the property will be during day hours. We thank you for your patience during construction.”

“Do not accept the vent,” one person urged in reply. “Move.”

Thankfully Evelyn then advised of her brother: “He is moving next month! Hopefully we can delay the construction until then.”

However, she also claimed in response to another TikTok user: “Now they’re threatening to force entry so we’re going to try that in the morning. Hoping they will help but everyone seems scared to since the owner owns half of the city.”
