The former Duchess of York is understood to be moving to a swish villa on the seafront around 80 miles from Lisbon and owned by Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank

Sarah Ferguson is expected to relocate to a £3.6m mansion in Portugal, it has been revealed.

The former duchess, 66, has maintained a low profile in recent weeks following revelations that she emailed the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein in 2011 after his release from prison for child sex offences. In the correspondence, Sarah apologised to her “supreme friend” for criticising him during a media interview.

Her spokesperson later clarified the email was sent due to fears she might face a defamation lawsuit from Epstein, the controversy has proved deeply damaging. This scandal, combined with her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s controversies, has resulted in both Sarah and Andrew losing their Royal titles and their Royal Lodge residence.

Whilst Andrew, 65, is relocating to a property on King Charles’ private Sandringham estate, Sarah is understood to be arranging separate accommodation, with sources now indicating Portugal as her likely destination.

It was revealed by to the Express that Sarah is expected to move into a luxury oceanfront villa in Portugal owned by her youngest daughter Princess Eugenie and Eugenie’s businessman husband Jack Brooksbank. Eugenie and her husband snapped up their plush property at the Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club resort in Melides, where he’s employed, back in May 2022.

Since then, they’ve been splitting their time between their Portuguese retreat and Ivy Cottage, their residence within the grounds of Kensington Palace.

The resort, a mere 82 miles south of Lisbon, is thought to be an ideal hideaway for Sarah. It’s been touted online as an “intimate, low density community”, perfect for keeping a low profile away from the prying eyes of the UK.

The resort boasts a beach club, dining options, and a plethora of activities including daily yoga, watersports, hiking and golf. There’s even an equestrian centre, so Sarah can still enjoy her love of horses, just like she did back in Windsor.

If Sarah does decide to make the move, she’ll be in good company. Pop icon Madonna and Oscar winner Alicia Vikander are rumoured to own properties in the vicinity.

A US source who frequently visits the Costa Terra resort told Mike Parker: “It’s a perfect place for Fergie to hide out while the Epstein affair continues to rumble on in Congress. She will be among family and friends and well away from the hostile atmosphere she’s facing in England.”

A well-off resident living on the estate revealed: “The word here is that Fergie will be arriving sometime in January. How long she’ll stay is anyone’s guess but if it’s a long-term move, I can guarantee she’ll fit well into the social scene.

“Scores of celebrities and Hollywood stars have been snapping up properties in the area.” The exclusive neighbourhood has become increasingly popular with A-listers seeking luxury homes in recent times.
