The recall affects only seven items of clothing, each linked to its own identifiable product code
Several baby clothing items from Matalan are being recalled due to potential injury risks. Customers should verify if their items are affected and stop using them immediately.
The product warning relates to specific ‘Dungarees, Rompers and Sweater Sets’ sold by the UK homeware and fashion retailer. Some of the clothing’s poppers are thought to have ‘rough edges’, which might cause infants to get cut or scraped.
An alert published by the Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) explains: “The products present a risk of injuries as some of the poppers have rough edges, which could lead to infants receiving cuts or scrapes.
“The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.” The recall affects only seven items of clothing, each of which is linked to its own identifiable product code.
According to the OPSS, this includes the following:
- Floral Jersey Romper, product code: C321632
- Unisex Bear Quilted Romper, product code: C321634
- Unisex Bear Quilted Sweat Set, product code: C321623
- Quilted Crew Sweat and Jog Grey, product code: C331713
- Herringbone Dungarees in Beige, product code: C321633
- Bear 3D Jersey Dungarees, product code: C321625
- Print Dungarees & Tee in Oatmeal, produce code: C321624
The affected products, produced in India, were sold between July 13, 2025 and October 17 2025, according to the recall.
A message on Matalan’s website also adds: “It has come to our attention that the above rompers and sweat sets do not meet our usual high standards for quality and safety, as there is risk that poppers have been incorrectly fitted and could cause injury.
“As customer safety is our highest priority, we are immediately recalling these rompers and sweat sets.” If you’ve purchased a product involved in this recall, please stop using it immediately and return it to your nearest Matalan store for a refund.
