The teenager got justice six years later

A man from East London who raped a teenage girl at a train station has been jailed. Marvin Ogbogdo, 23, of Millstone Close, Stratford, attacked the 14-year-old in the sheltered seating area of Chafford Hundred station, metres from Lakeside Shopping Centre, in 2019.

The then 17-year-old had spent months grooming the girl on social media before inviting her to spend the day together. Having gained her trust, he repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap before assaulting her.

Ogbogbo then fled the scene on a London-bound train, leaving the young victim alone at the station. She bravely came forward in October 2024, with British Transport Police (BTP) officers later arresting him on December 23.

He was snared at Barking police station, where he was required to attend every Monday as part of his bail conditions for an unrelated matter. In interview the creep attempted to deny his actions, making out to detectives that he had only kissed the victim.

He was found guilty of one count of rape last month following a week-long trial at Isleworth Crown Court, and sentenced to four years behind bars. He is also subject to restraining order not to contact the victim and must sign the sex offenders register for life..

BTP Detective Constable Jennifer Brown said: “Putting Ogbogbo behind bars for this abhorrent rape is testament to the victim who showed immense bravery in reporting what happened to her. Ogbogbo is a vile predator who targeted an underage girl and groomed her for his own sexual gratification.

“We take every report of sexual violence extremely seriously and will always launch a full investigation no matter how much time has passed.”
