Before Meghan Markle tied the knot with Prince Harry, she was previously married to film producer Trevor Engelson – and a friend of his has revealed what he apparently said when she first started dating the royal
A pal of Meghan Markle’s ex-husband has described his telling reaction to the news that she started dating Prince Harry. Before Meghan struck up romance with the Duke of Sussex, she was previosuly married to film producer Trevor Engelson for almost three years after tying the knot in 2011.
They divorced in 2014, with it being finalised two years before Meghan met Harry for the first time when the pair were introduced by friends in 2016. And now Bethenny Frankel, an original star of the Real Housewives of New York, who claims to be a friend of Trevor’s, says that as soon as he found out about his exes’ new relationship, he was convinced they would marry.

Of course, this turned out to be the case, as after just under two years of dating, Harry and Meghan married in a fairytale wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in front of the entire Royal Family and celebrity guests.
Speaking on The Toast podcast, Bethenny revealed she had met Trevor years ago at a bar and occasionally text each other, with one text interaction being about Meghan. The reality TV star and businesswoman said: “He said his ex was a woman from a show called Suits. I didn’t know what the show was. I didn’t know the woman.
“Months later, I see pictures showing Harry’s dating someone and texted him: “Is this your ex?”.’ Trevor said: ‘Yup’. She went on in a text to him: “Do you think she’s going to close?” – as in seal the deal and marry him. And she claims Trevor replied: “Oh, she’ll close.”
Bethenny added: ‘I don’t want to get into more about that but he was like, “She’ll close”. Since splitting with Meghan, Trevor has gone on to marry nutritionist and multi-million dollar hieress Tracey Kurland.
The couple went on to welcome their first daughter, Ford Grace Engelson in August 2020, followed by Sienna Lee Engelson, who arrived in November 2021. Earlier this year, they had a son called Logan Stanford Engelson.
In the book Meghan, A Hollywood Princess, Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton claimed that Meghan and Trevor met at a dive bar while she was getting her start in acting.
But “cracks began to appear in their marriage” shortly after they tied the knot, but that their separation was “totally out of the blue” for the film producer.
“Trevor went from cherishing Meghan to, as one friend observed, ‘feeling like he was a piece of something stuck to the bottom of her shoe.'”
At the time, they had been trying to maintain a long-distance relationship and, as such, were not residing in the same city when they separated. Meghan was required to spend long periods of time in Toronto, where Suits was filmed, while Trevor lived in LA.
