A 27-year-old prince has proposed to his girlfriend while on a family trip to Japan for another wedding. The lovely news has been announced by his proud father

Congratulations are in order for a prince and his new fiancée after he popped the question on a trip abroad.

Prince Johannes Oettingen-Wallerstein, an heir to one of the most established aristocratic houses in Germany, asked his girlfriend Luisa Textor to marry him while attending a family wedding in Japan.

Johannes, 27, presented Luisa, 25 with a dazzling triple sapphire ring and they couldn’t look happier in a stunning selfie shared as part of the announcement. The pair are all smiles in the snap, taken in front of a backdrop of beautiful scenery.

The joyful news was shared on social media by Johannes’ father, Prince Carl Eugen zu Oettingen-Wallerstein. The chuffed dad posted on Instagram: “And suddenly she says yes! Our son @johannesow and @luisatxt got engaged in Kyoto.”

He added: “We are so incredibly happy for them both – for their courage, their shared ‘yes,’ and for everything that lies ahead. All the very best to you both. May life fulfil your promises – and perhaps even a little more. Hugs!”.

Although not a widely recognised royal, Johannes is a member of the House of Oettingen, a high-ranking noble family from Franconia and Swabia that governed various estates between the 12th century and the early 19th century, according to Tatler. He is the grandson of the current head of the dynasty, the Express reports.

No wedding date has been confirmed by the couple yet. While Prince Carl Eugen zu Oettingen-Wallerstein broadcasted his son’s exciting engagement news on his own Instagram, it remains unclear whether the couple did the same on their private social media accounts.

The comments on Johannes dad’s post were full with sweet messages for the happy couple, “Congratulations to the whole family,” one wrote. A second added: “Congratulations to the beautiful couple.”

Johannes and his new fiancée were in Japan for the wedding of the Prince’s maternal uncle, Prince Peter of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn, who wed Yurina Hattori-Roche in a Shinto ceremony after also marrying at Schloss Sayn, Hello! Magazine reports.

The Prince’s doting father Carl got married to Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn from 1994, but they separated in 2006. They have two children, Johannes and his older sister, Princess Helena, 30.

Johannes also has three half-siblings. His 11-year-old half brother, Prince Eugen, is from his father’s second marriage to Antje Hermann. Meanwhile, his half sister and half brother Countess Elisabetta and Count Lászlo, are on his mum’s side, from her second marriage to Count Stefano Hunyady de Kéthely, People Magazine reports.
