Selfridges shoppers have been left baffled by a £40 Princess Diana Christmas bauble, which some reckon bears more of a resemblance to Rodney Trotter or US President Donald Trump
With the Christmas season fast approaching, Selfridges has unveiled a decadent bauble that should have left Royal watchers delighted – instead, there have been a few snickers over the trinket, which purports to depict the late Princess Diana.
The £40 festive tree decoration, made entirely of glass, features Lady Di clad in her iconic and much imitated ‘Black sheep’ jumper, with her hair styled in her signature feathered shag layers.
Fans of the widely beloved former Princess of Wales, who died in 1997 at the age of just 36, will likely instantly see her likeness in this 12cm high by 9cm wide ornament, which has been described as having “realistic features”.

However, there are a number of individuals who’ve been left baffled to say the least by the bauble, believing it bears more resemblance to George Michael, Rodney Trotter from classic sitcom Only Fools and Horses, or BBC sports host “Clare Balding wearing a Christmas jumper”, and they’ve made their feelings known online.
Confused customer Laura Lindsay gasped: “What in the Jesus, Mary and Joseph and his little donkey too, is that?”
A second shopper, by the name of Natasha Guy, lamented, “They’ve done Diana so dirty.” A third, Lauren, added, “Thought it was Donald Trump, a younger version”, while Sarah Luddington joked: “That’s a really good Rodney Trotter bauble.”
Meanwhile, a woman named Melanie Cooper observed, “It looks more like Clare Balding wearing a Christmas jumper to me. And I bet it costs way too much as well.”
According to the description on the Selfridges website: “Selfridges Edit glass Christmas decoration, 100 percent glass. Princess Diana design, realistic features, hanging loop. Height 12cm, width 9cm. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth.”
This Diana dec features as part of a wider festive range, which includes a £40 likeness of the late Queen Elizabeth, and £38 baubles showing King Charles and Queen Camilla. Interestingly, Selfridges shoppers can pick up trinkets depicting Prince William and Princess Kate, but there’s no Prince Harry or Meghan Markle decoration to be found.
This story comes as 24-year-old Alanis Cooper says she was browsing in her local Selfridges for a new Christmas bauble when she spotted a variety of bizarre £28 injectable-shaped decorations, one of which had the word ‘Ozempic’ written on the side. Another sparkly ‘syringe’ was embellished with the word ‘fillers’.
Uploaded a clip of her shopping trip to TikTok, Alanis, from Hillingdon in West London, revealed: “It was just so funny and random to come across. I had come in on my lunch break to get my annual Selfridges bauble, as I’m growing my own little collection, but I wasn’t expecting to see filler and weight-loss jab baubles!” She continued: “I didn’t end up getting one, but it did make me laugh.”
The Mirror has reached out to Selfridges for comment.
