The M&S Christmas wrap is made with a giant Yorkshire pudding, and is filled with beef, carrots and greens, and a cheese sauce – but some shoppers are not impressed

Marks and Spencer has been slammed for putting cheese in their new £8.50 Christmas wrap. The treat is made with a giant Yorkshire pudding, and is filled with beef, carrots and greens, and a cheesy sauce.

For many of us, a festive Christmas treat would feature turkey and other festive favourites like stuffing and pigs in blankets, and it seems the lack of those ingredients have raised eyebrows.

Others baulked at the price of the snack on sale at M&S Cafes nationwide.

The description states: “Fancy your Christmas lunch all wrapped up? Our brand new Yorkshire Pudding Wraps have been wowing customers since landing on our Café menu. This new-season staple is the perfect mix of warm, fluffy, golden Yorkshire pud. With the most flavoursome centre of succulent eight-hour slow-cooked British roast beef, roasted carrots, greens and oozy, cheesy beef bechamel sauce. This is 100% one not to miss. Find it on our Café menu now and let us know what you think.”

But customers were quick to criticise it, with one person asking: “Why cheese bechamel sauce?” This was echoed by one disgruntled commenter, who added: “Bechemel sauce? Why?” Why does everything have to have cheese in it?”

Another fumed: “Sounded lovely until it mentioned horseradish and cheese sauce. Needs stuffing and a pig in blanket.”

One chimed in: “Turkey?”, while another quizzed: “No stuffing?”

Others were fixated on the price, with one asking: “£8.50?”, while another repeated: “Did I see £8.50?” But one fan said: “I had one this lunchtime and enjoyed it,” while a second chimed: “I had one last week, totally delish.”

Last week, the supermarket came under fire after it emerged they were charing £195 for a Tom Kerridge Christmas beef wellington to feed six people.

Writer Dianne Bourne tried the turkey version – and was very impressed. .

She said: “A succulent turkey slice, wrapped around moist stuffing, is encircled by rich shredded turkey thigh and then enveloped in the crispy buttery puff pastry. It’s a masterclass in meat from Mr Kerridge.

“It might be a hefty price, but this would certainly elevate your Christmas dinner to gourmet levels.”

An M&S spokesperson said “The M&S Collection Tom Kerridge Beef Wellington has been a big hit with customers – it’s selling very well and we only have a few left on our Christmas Food To Order page.

“Serving six people and weighing over 2kg, the hand-butchered British beef fillet is matured over 17 days and hand rolled in portobello mushroom duxelles with silky chicken breast mousse and black truffle as it would be in a restaurant – it’s the absolute best quality wellington we’ve ever created.”

M&S has been approached for comment over the wrap.
