As many are contemplating when to put up their Christmas decorations, psychic Inbaal Honigman has warned that there’s a certain time of year you’ll defintiely want to avoid

Many people are succumbing to the Christmas cheer and putting their decorations up a little bit earlier – because it’s just a bit of fun. The Christmas markets are on up and down the country, many towns have done their annual lights switch-on, and we’ve moved away from pumpkin spice to cinnamon and hot chocolate.

However, psychic Inbaal Honigman has claimed that it’s actually bad luck to do this, and there’s a date you should wait for instead. She noted that “Christmas seems to be getting earlier and earlier” each year. But as long as you wait until this date for your decorations, you’ll be fine.

Speaking to tarot reading platform Tarotoo, astrologer Inbaal Honigman revealed the exact date you should wait until to avoid what some may deem as bad luck.

With the end of Mercury retrograde coming on November 29, Inbaal warned that it’s important to wait until it’s over to put your decorations up.

This will coincide with the first Sunday of Advent, which traditionally is a popular day to decorate, alongside December 1.

And, if you’re thinking of buying gifts for your loved ones now, think again. This year is slightly different due to the Mercury retrograde, which will negatively impact communication. In turn, astrology followers believe this could impact ordering, couriers, and delivery times.

When is the best time to put your Christmas decorations up and take them down?

Inbaal said: “Astrologically, in 2025, one of the most important things would be to miss the Mercury retrograde, which ends on November 29th. The Mercury retrograde can be a harbinger of mayhem, so it’s best to wait until it is over before decorating.

“Traditionally, the 12 days of Christmas would start on Christmas Day, and so decorating beforehand was less common, and the tinsel would be down by January 5th, which was the 12th day.

“More recent traditions call for putting the baubles up on the first Sunday of Advent, four weeks before Christmas, whereas modern families tend to decorate on 1 December.

“Taking down the decorations on 5th January is still generally viewed as the norm and considered bad luck for the year ahead to take them down any later, but putting them up becomes a little earlier with each generation”.

When should you have your Christmas presents bought by?

She said: “The good news is that in 2025, you shouldn’t start too soon. Ideally, the shopping period of 2025 would be 1-20 December. The Mercury retrograde between 10 November and 29 November is an astrological phenomenon which negatively impacts communication.

“This means that online ordering systems, couriers, emails and phone calls are all likely to experience delays and mishaps.

“In fact, leaving the bulk of your Christmas shopping to December in 2025 isn’t only advisable, it is responsible. The gifts that would be bought before 21 December will be purchased during the Sagittarius season, so they’ll be fun and joyful.

“Anything purchased during Capricorn season, after the 21st, will be beautiful but overpriced, because Capricorn is a posh kind of star sign, so the sensible cut-off date is the 21st”.
