“I found the perfect therapist for me. I was worried about who would reach out to me in case they didn’t work out.”
People have praised online service Betterhelp for helping them find a therapist they can connect with as well as being ‘easy to use’. Currently the online counselling service is offering users 20% off their first month’s subscription to help them with any issues or concerns that may be affecting them this winter.
The mental health charity Mind reports that one in four people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. Studies also show that talking therapies can help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. According to August 2025 statistics shared by the NHS for its talking therapy services, 67.6% of referrals finishing a course of treatment showed reliable improvement.
With long waiting lists, high costs, and the stigma attached to mental health, it can stop people from getting help when they need it most. However, there is a range of services providing easier access to counselling from the privacy of home – often with lower costs than traditional private treatment.

The BetterHelp service combines a large directory of trained counsellors and therapists with an online platform for receiving talking therapies. Once matched to a mental health professional, which the platform says takes as little as 48 hours, users can connect via weekly live video, phone, or chat sessions, with unlimited messaging between sessions.
With the Mirror’s 20% discount, the first month would cost between £36 to £56 per week. All BetterHelp counsellors must have at least three years’ experience, the brand says, as well as verified UK credentials, such as Registered Member (MBACP) or Accredited (MNCPS / PMNCPS / HCPC). If users don’t feel like their therapist is the right fit, they can switch at any time or cancel their membership.
There are alternatives to BetterHelp that shoppers could use, such as Talkspace, which offers access to a licensed therapist in two days or sooner. There are also therapy sessions over a video, voice, or live chat, depending on what individuals want, along with unlimited messaging with therapists.
The Headspace meditation app is another option which is said to help users cultivate mindfulness through guided courses and mental health tools. The service costs £9.99 a month or £49.99 for an annual membership.
According to the brand, a BetterHelp subscription ranges from £45 to £70 per week (billed every four weeks). The price also includes over 100 live group sessions, as well as digital resources and worksheets.

Another wrote: “Easy to use platform, easy to connect with people. It would be good to see some improvement, but honestly you are already ahead of many in the field, so kudos.”
