Our shopping writer Lucy Addicott has been trying out electric toothbrushes

Electric toothbrushes not only make the task of brushing teeth less tedious, but they’re also far more effective than manual brushes, as confirmed by dental experts. Having tested electric toothbrushes from a variety of brands, I’ve built up a wealth of knowledge on what to look for. So read on if you’re considering upgrading your current model or making the big switch from manual to electric.

With Black Friday upon us, it’s an ideal time to snag a new electric toothbrush, potentially saving hundreds off the regular price. Major retailers such as Boots and Amazon are slashing prices on dental care products, offering a plethora of bargains to explore.

In addition to bagging great deals on electric toothbrushes, stocking up on replacement brush heads during Black Friday could result in long-term savings. There are numerous deals on Amazon for Oral-B brush heads, which are compatible with Oral-B devices. For instance, a pack of 10 Oral-B Precision Clean Brush Heads is now priced at £19.85, down from £43.49. For iO models, these 8 brush heads were £91.99 and are now £39.85, a significant saving.

Oral-B iO2 Electric Toothbrush – now £34.99, was £100

Having racked up an overall score of 4.6 out of five by more than 92,000 people, it’s arguable that the Oral-B i02 model is one of the brand’s most popular options. Now less than £35 in a 65% off Black Friday deal at Amazon, shoppers can choose from several colours including black and pink.

It boasts three intensity levels (extra-gentle, gentle and daily clean), a feature ideal for those with sensitive teeth and gums, as well as a pressure sensor that slows down speed and signals red when brushing too hard.

Customers say that while it ‘takes some time to charge’, when it has ‘it lasts a long while’. One five-star shopper said: “If you’re on the fence about this product, I cannot recommend it enough. Investing in it is one of the best decisions I’ve made for my long-term health. My smile has never felt cleaner or healthier.”

Oral-B iO3 Electric Toothbrush – now £49.99, was £160

The Oral-B i03 Electric Toothbrush has several contemporary features, such as a pressure sensor, three cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive and whitening), and a two-minute timer, but it’s not fussy or complicated to use. Shoppers say that the ‘battery life is impressive’ and is ‘noticeably quieter’ than previous models.

Hailed as ‘feeling like a dentist clean at home’ and ‘great for that dental hygienist feeling at a fraction of the price’, at 69% off it’s ‘great value for money’. There are comments that say it is difficult to tell which mode it’s in which is worth noting if that’s a key feature when buying.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Prestige 9900 – now £199.99, was £549.99

This snazzy model from Philips is the best electric toothbrush I’ve tried and Boots have discounted it by huge amount for Black Friday – saving shoppers a whopping £350. You can read my full review on The Mirror, but it made my teeth feel so clean after using, and I found the timing feature, and the feedback you are given via the app a really useful tool.

Plus, it looks great in your bathroom. It’s certainly not the cheapest model around, however, as a gadget used at least twice a day, I think users certainly get their money’s worth.

SURI 2.0 Sustainable Electric Toothbrush – now £84, was £105

Since the original model being released in 2022, this toothbrush has racked up a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Trust Pilot by over 12,000 customers, and I was very impressed myself when I tried it out. Shoppers can now discover the updated model, SURI 2.0, on sale on the brand’s website, Boots and Amazon.

It’s crafted from recyclable materials, and has two cleaning modes, plus a clever travel case that includes a UV-C light killing 99.9% of bacteria. Now 25% off, this lightweight model is great for teeth as well as the planet.

Oral-B Pro Kids Electric Toothbrush – now £20.25, was £50

Starting children off early with an electric toothbrush is a great way to get them interested in brushing their teeth – especially when they come in playful designs like this Spider-Man option, complete with stickers, two cleaning modes, and a Disney timer app.

Although I haven’t tried this gadget myself, shoppers have said: “My son has never liked brushing his teeth but since getting this toothbrush he has wanted to use it after every meal. He finds it easy to use, just the right size for small hands and mouths.”

There is also a Frozen version which is slightly cheaper at £18.66, again on Amazon.
