Although colder weather has firmly set in, few joys match the heights of homemade ice cream, no matter the time of year. Shoppers who want to try a batch of their very own ice cream can turn to a deal from Lakeland.

The Lakeland Digital Ice Cream Maker 1.8L is currently priced at £34.99, down from £44.99. Similar to the popular Ninja CREAMi Deluxe 10-in-1 Ice Cream and Frozen Drink Maker, the Lakeland alternative is a fraction of the price.

The Ninja CREAMi has the added ability to make slushies, frappes and a host of frozen drinks, along with a few rarer treats like shaved ice or two-in-one tub flavours. Its price, however, may not suit all budgets.

With Lakeland’s maker, shoppers can get a batch ready in as little as 40 minutes, although the brand recommends freezing the 1.8-litre bowl overnight in advance. Before adding cooled ingredients, ensure the paddle is turning. Its churning capability can be controlled with a handy LED display, timed between five and 45 minutes.

The Argos Cuisinart 950ml Freeze Ease Ice Cream Maker, currently priced at £119.99, down from £149.99, is another appliance to consider. With a built-in compressor to keep it cool for continuous use and removing the need for a pre-freeze, it features 800 ml batches with a simple touch display.

Buyers loved the value on offer for their Lakeland purchase, though. One shopper said: “I am an avid MasterChef Australia fan and every time they make ice cream in the show I say ‘I want that machine’. I saw a similar one and took a punt.

“It is simple, quick and makes delicious ice cream and sorbet. So far, I have made vanilla and mint chocolate ice cream and a lemon sorbet. Add the ingredients and let the ice cream maker do the rest.”

Another shopper said: “Been making ice cream and sorbet all summer and it’s great! Worked every time. Especially good as my dad is diabetic, so it can easily reduce the sugar content. Ideal for trying out different flavours.”

A third added: “This is so easy to use, and to clean afterwards. The freezer is now full of various ice cream flavours and sorbets. The recipe book is small but great as a guide. Have swapped fruits and flavours, and all have been successful. Highly recommend.”

Some shoppers left feedback, one reminded buyers that the large bowl needs to be kept in the freezer, which could be inconvenient. They said: “Easy enough to use, you have to have the bowl in the freezer for 12 hours before use. I keep mine in there permanently at the moment, but if you are short on freezer space, it could be annoying. Makes lovely strawberry ice cream.”

Another added: “Bought this at a special price. Made the most delicious strawberry ice cream from a basic Cuisinart recipe. Only faff is having to make sure you freeze the bowl for at least 12 hours, but overnight is better. Delicious ice cream made. Money well spent. The little gap to feed is rather small, but just put the mixture in a glass and pour slowly.”
