Christmas is just around the corner, and ’tis the season for over-indulging. A tub of Celebrations is a staple in many households but one shopper was left floored after lifting the lid on theirs
A chocolate fan bought a box of Celebrations and, after lifting the lid on the iconic red tub, they asked if its contents were “normal”. Over-indulging on chocolate is a rite of passage during the Christmas season, and everyone has their favourite.
Whether you’re a fan of Cadbury’s Heroes or Roses, or Nestlé’s Quality Street or Mars’ Celebrations, there’s something for everyone. Even within the tubs of chocolate themselves, people have their preferences.
With Celebrations, there’s miniature versions and spins on eight beloved chocolate bars. There’s Galaxy, Galaxy caramel, Maltesers Teasers, Twix, Mars, Snickers and Bounty.
Despite the selection, it does seem one chocolate proves to be the most popular offering for many. The beloved Maltesers Teaser is consistently praised as the best of the bunch, and many people theorise there’s actually less of them than anything else.
On Reddit, one chocolate fan tipped out the contents of their Celebrations tub and grouped each chocolate together to clearly illustrate the given quantity of each.
They had seven Mars bars, four Twixes, eight Milky Ways, seven Bountys, six Snickers, five Galaxy Caramels, two regular Galaxys and three Malteser Teasers for a total of 42 mini chocolates.
In the title of their post, they asked: “Is this normal Celebration’s distribution?” They then elaborated: “This is the ratio of chocolates in a Celebrations tub I was just given – is this normal?
“Like any other rational human, I prefer the Galaxy (normal and caramel) and the greatest of them all: the Malteser. I am dissatisfied!”
In the comments section, fellow chocolate fans were keen to share their thoughts. One person said: “When you lay it out like that, it’s absolutely nothing in those things”.
Someone else joked: “Next year you will find the tubs in the frisbee section”. A third said: “Don’t feel so bad about ploughing through a full box alone a few weeks ago now.”
A fourth commented: “This is absolutely tragic as the Malteser is the far superior choccy.” Another person shared a photo of their Celebrations selection from Christmas 2021. They had 71 miniature chocolates in their tub, eight of which were the coveted Malteser Teaser.
But someone else had better luck with their 2025 tub. They shared an image of their selection and said: “I feel we got a much better distribution! Also couldn’t help but notice we had 54 to OP’s 42! 7 or 8 each for Milky Way, Mars, Bounty, Twix and Snickers. Then 5 each for both types of Galaxy and of course the Malteaser!”
A Mars Wrigley UK spokesperson said: “We know each and every chocolate is delicious to someone. That’s why the Celebrations mix has been carefully designed by our chocolate experts since 1994, to make it perfect for sharing with friends and family, no matter their favourites.
“We will always absorb pricing pressures where we can, but rising manufacturing costs – driven in part by well-documented increases in the cost of cocoa – have meant that we’ve had to adjust the size of our Celebrations tubs.
“It’s not a decision we take lightly, but it ensures families can still enjoy their favourite mix of Celebrations without compromising on quality or taste.”
