PC Lauren Evans will be sentenced next year
A Met Cop has been found guilty of making a false sexual assault allegation. She claimed she was sexually assaulted by someone claiming to be a plainclothes officer at about 1pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
PC Lauren Evans, attached to the South Area Basic Command Unit, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, December 1, where she pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice. She had given a surname and description of the supposed unmarked police car.
An officer with the same surname, driving an unmarked cop car in the area, was tracked down and arrested the next day.
But they were released without charge when it emerged Evans’ report was false. It was found they were not involved, and there had never been a stop. PC Evans was suspended from duty after being arrested on Thursday, April 20, 2023.
She was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court yesterday (Monday, December 8) and will be sentenced at the same court on Monday, February 9, 2026.
‘It is completely unacceptable’
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cutler from the Met’s Anti-Abuse and Corruption Command, said: “Officers should act with integrity at all times and lying about such a serious allegation is completely unacceptable. It undermines the work that takes place across the Met every day to support victims of sexual offences and it will not be tolerated.
“This has been a complex investigation which started following an allegation against another officer. This allegation was investigated thoroughly and we found no evidence that the incident had taken place.”
