An 27-year-old woman says her partner’s style of walking has put their relationship on thin ice – but if you’re picturing a strange sort of waddle or trot, you have it all wrong

We all get the ‘ick’ now and again – whether you’ve been with someone for two minutes or two years. But one woman has certainly polarised the internet, after confessing that her partner’s walk put their relationship on thin ice.

While you may be picturing a strange sort of waddle or Mr Bean-esque trot, this isn’t the case at all. The 27-year-old instead claimed that it was actually his tendency to always walk ahead that continuously grinded on her gears.

Taking to Reddit, she explained: “Early into our relationship I noticed that he had a tendency to walk ahead of me. Like if we go to a store, after parking he’ll immediately start walking to the entrance without waiting for me. Sometimes he’ll just keep walking and won’t look back until he’s quite far.”

As of now, the pair have been dating for almost two years, with the habit striking a nerve over and over in their relationship. One frustrating incident even took place this week when the couple went to watch a movie. “The theatre was a bit crowded and as we were heading to our auditorium he dropped his receipt, which he noticed and saw me bending over to pick it up,” she continued.

“Thing is, he didn’t wait for me. He just kept walking until he got to his seat, he didn’t even look behind for me. Needless to say it did ruin my mood, I kept thinking about the fact that he’s still doing this despite how long we’ve been together.”

While the woman claims she’s voiced these concerns, it continues to be something he needs reminding about, even though he understood and said ‘he’ll work on it’. “…It makes me feel left behind and that he’s only looking out for himself,” she added.

“It’s getting to a point to where I am reconsidering this relationship, though I know it can be seen as a ‘small’ thing. Am I being too sensitive over this?”

The woman’s confession comes at a time when countless daters are taking to the internet to open up about their biggest ‘icks’ – even if they hardly make sense. This includes Stranger Things actress Milly Bobby Brown who recently told BBC Radio 1 that she hates it when men hold umbrellas.

“There’s something about it that just feels really pathetic,” she said. “… and you know what? I have a new one. This morning, I was on a flight with my fiancé and he got a nosebleed, and I got the ick.

“One because he just got a nosebleed, like at the most inconvenient time. We just landed, the seatbelt sign was still on – he’s doing an Eleven, I’m like calm down.”

And while this was met with thousands of funny comments, the anonymous Reddit post didn’t quite have the same reaction. One person responded: “This isn’t small, this is blatantly disrespectful and just bad manners.

“If someone did this to me, I’d turn around and leave them there. You already talked to him about it, he continues to treat you with disrespect.”

Another later added: “It’s a little thing, sure. But relationships are made of little things. Especially little things about which we communicate our preferences and needs.”

Others however, saw the situation a bit less seriously, with one person writing: “I walk much faster than my husband. He calls me the Lone Ranger. When I get to far ahead, he calls out ‘Hi ho, Silver! Away!’ to remind me to slow down. It works for us.”
