One of the UK’s most beautiful beaches has gorgeous sandy dunes, clear waters and even dolphins – and right by a charming seaside town for visitors to explore too

Brits looking for beautiful beaches for their next staycation may want to head to the charming seaside town of Lossiemouth in Scotland, where you can find one of the nation’s best beaches.

East Beach has traditionally been popular with surfers and hikers thanks to its breathtaking sandy dunes, clear waters and picturesque surroundings, not to mention you can keep an eye out for wildlife including Moray Firth bottlenose dolphins and seals. Its location right by Lossiemouth also means visitors can enjoy ice cream parlours, restaurants and shops all just a stone’s throw away.

It’s therefore no surprise that it’s been named one of Scotland’s best beaches by Visit Scotland. The team explain: “Over in the north east Mainland, the harbour at ‘Lossie’ is flanked by two stunning beaches to the east and west. The east’s pretty sand dunes and long stretches of white sand make it a lovely place to walk the dog, or just yourself, with views across to the harbour town. Or, why not explore the Covesea Lighthouse on the west side? Beach fact: This isn’t just one of the best beaches in Scotland – the gelato is amazing! Stop for a scoop at Miele’s.”

There are plenty of budget-friendly accommodation options too; Tripadvisor has some stays from £49 a night while Kayak found hotels from £63 a night. Of course like any UK beach, East Beach tends to be more of a hit during the summer months when temperatures are warmer, but because of the gorgeous landscapes, it’s still popular with visitors year-round who come to enjoy scenic strolls along the water.

One holidaymaker wrote: “Love to visit Lossie beach when seeing family in the local area. It looks gorgeous on a clear/sunny day and it always worth a visit. A walk across the bridge to the dunes is really nice but (unsurprisingly) can be a little chilly outside of summer so do wrap up!”

Another added: “Great long sandy beach with dunes and lots to explore. Drove past while on visits, had to stop and take a picture and then came back for an evening walk.”

Meanwhile one person said they were impressed by the clean waters and the wildlife they spotted. They explained: “The beach is really beautiful with the bridge over from the harbour and then sandy beaches on either side. The water is so clear and seems that one side is usually less windy so can pick which side to walk down. There were regular fly overs from the RAF base as well which was interesting and saw a seal in the harbour along with the fishermen and some swimmers. The harbour has a few ice cream and snack shops and a pub and lots of benches to sit on and enjoy the view.”
