A woman has come up with the ultimate tip for cutting costs on supermarket seasoning and getting more product for your money – she hasn’t looked back since swapping aisles for her herbs and spices

A shopper has been hailed a “legend” after sharing their ultimate supermarket hack for saving money on seasoning.

We are inundated with recipes from apps, social media, or new books coming out all the time. And if you want a flavoursome meal, you can guarantee that will need to pick up some herbs and spices if you don’t already have them at home.

Whether you are picking up some more salt and pepper, paprika to spice up your dishes, some garlic or an easy all-purpose seasoning, it is an extra expense we could do without. Often supermarkets have a seasoning section, but a woman says you can get a lot more for your money if you ditch the small jars and head to a different aisle.

Money-savvy Lynn took to her TikTok page @lynnsaves to explain that she was fed up of spending a fortune just to have a flavoursome meal. “Don’t go to the seasoning aisle and I’ll show you why,” the mum said. With inflation raking prices up and the cost of living crisis affecting households across the UK, it is key to look for ways to cut down costs where we can.

Lynn who enjoys shopping smart, added: “I think everybody should know this but I bet you there’s still people who do not know this. When you go to the supermarket and you buy your seasoning – because you should be buying seasoning – don’t go to the seasoning aisle.” Lynn shows a 45 grams jar of garlic powder to the camera costing £1 at Tesco.

She continued: “Ground ginger is 38 grams per pound and ground coriander is £1 for 36 grams. Seems reasonable until you see some sense. Take your two feet and you walk down the World Foods aisle. It’s way cheaper – look at the pence per 10 grams for all the same seasonings. I think it’s literally almost half the price.

“So now you know, go save yourself some money.” Lynn’s trick means you can get a product that has double the amount of seasoning in it for 30p more and the product will last much longer.

Applauding Lynn’s hack, one individual said: “Yes! And the coconut milk in world foods aisle is like half the price it’s crazy.” One other added: “I feel like I’m constantly spending money on seasonings so this good to know! As someone who lives pay check to pay check, I’ll be doing this in future instead of those £1 jars! Thank you.”

“It’s also usually much better quality and tastes better too,” another commented. But others admitted they prefer the glass jars.

One said: “I’ll pay extra to have it in a glass jar with a sprinkler rather than a baggy.” Coming up with a conclusion, another added: “Buy the expensive one first then refill the pots with the cheaper alternative.”

One other commented: “Everyone complains about the bags. Buy jars from the pound shop then transfer the seasoning and add what it is on the lid.”
