One five-minute test could be all it takes to find out how dry your skin really is, and one woman who tried the test herself has said she was ‘horrified’ by the results

Combating dry skin can be a nightmare, and knowing what skincare products to buy can be tricky – not to mention expensive. But according to one woman, there is a simple five-minute test you can do to discover just how dehydrated your skin is, as well as pinpoint the exact areas of your face that need more moisture.
Bambi, who posts on TikTok under the username @bambidoesbeauty, said that all you need to do the test is your favourite “hydrating” skin care mask, which you should apply to your entire face before leaving it to sit for five minutes.
In her video, the woman said she used the Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag mask, but any cream-based mask will work. She explained: “Skincare tip that won’t cost you any more money. This is how to tell if your skin is dehydrated. Apply an even layer of your favourite hydrating mask. I had to go in with Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag Mask, because it went viral for a reason, and wait five minutes.”
Bambi then returned five minutes later to show that parts of the cream had been completely absorbed into the skin around her eyes and forehead, while other areas – such as the edges of her face and her nose – still had visible traces of the mask left. She said this proved how desperate those areas of her face were for moisture.
“Okay it has been five minutes – look how obvious this is,” she continued, “These are the areas that have just soaked up all that mask. Now I know which areas of my face are dehydrated.”
Bambi finished her video by declaring that the Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag mask is a “viral product that is worth the hype”. The mask went viral after Kim Kardashian revealed her love for the product, and although it is hugely popular with beauty fans, it’s still available to buy online at several retailers, Bristol Live reports.
You can pick up a 28g tube of the mask for £26 from Cult Beauty, who also sells a bigger 64g tube for £49. Sephora also sells the product, but they only have the 64g version for the same price as Cult Beauty at £49. A product description for the mask reads: “Thanks to a nourishing combination of hyaluronic acid, glycerin, niacinamide, allantoin and panthenol, this soothing formula leaves your complexion uber-dewy, radiant and ready for anything.”
If you don’t want to part with that much cash but need a new hydrating face mask, you can pick up a similar cream from your local Boots, where the Avene Soothing Hydrating mask costs just £12.19 for a 50ml bottle.
