A cautionary tale has taken the internet by storm, with an unidentified ‘wife’ utterly convinced her partner is up to no good – all due to a single spontaneous purchase

We all enjoy a cheeky present to ourselves now and again – but one husband’s impulse buy has left his marriage in shambles.

An anonymous cautionary tale has taken the internet by storm, with an unidentified ‘wife’ utterly convinced her partner is cheating – all because of a single purchase. While you may be envisioning a suspicious hotel stay or unexplained restaurant receipt, this is not the case at all.

Instead, it’s claimed the husband actually snapped up a campervan all the way back in 2020. Albeit innocent at the surface, the woman said her ‘female intuition’ is screaming at her, telling her that not everything is as it seems. “My husband convinced me to buy a campervan during lockdown back in 2020 – but I think I’m starting to regret the decision,” she wrote three days ago on Reddit.

“We only really use the camper in the summer but recently my husband (who works from home) seems to be spending more time there using it as an excuse to go on overnight work trips or saying he uses it as his office… which is kind of plausible I suppose. My female intuition is telling me he’s using it to get up to no good.”

Although the writer had no ‘hard evidence’ to back her suspicions, she claimed the vehicle reeked of ‘female perfume’ this week, stressing that it definitely wasn’t hers. She continued: “Should I be worried? Are campervan affairs a thing now?”

The unnerving Reddit story comes as Illicitencounters.com, the UK’s ‘biggest married dating website’ unveiled that cheaters are becoming increasingly creative when it comes to affair coverups. In a poll of 2,000 users it found that 42% had experimented with disguises, while 38% had lied about family deaths.

Golf trips and business trips were the most popular excuses of all however, used by 74% and 87% respectively. This was closely followed by working overtime at 70% and family commitments at 68%.

In spite of this, many commenters were quick to suggest the woman was overthinking her husband’s campervan behaviour. One user wrote: “I’ll be honest, I’m not sure how many women would realistically be wooed with ‘hey, wanna come back to my campervan’…I like campervans and sex, but I’d still much rather use a hotel room. Does this thing even have a loo?”

Others however, were more sceptical, and even suggested subtle ways to catch him in the act of whatever he’s up to. Another user wrote: “I’d definitely show up to surprise him with his favourite drinks, snacks, and takeout, around 9pm local time, like a good wife who has nothing to worry about.

“Bring a carbonated drink with a bright, deeply staining colour like orange or purple, and be prepared to shake the s*** out of it and spray it all over him and the side piece, if needed. If not, pour a glass and enjoy a little get away.”

Someone else chimed in: “I ignored the smell of perfume on my ex and do not recommend doing that. Maybe suggest selling the camper and that he could take the train for overnight trips and judge his reaction.”
