The mother of the 14-year-old boy killed in the Hainault sword attack was heard screaming as she found her wounded son and had to be held back by police at the scene yesterday (April 30), a neighbour said. Daniel Anjorin who was locally named as the boy who was killed had been on his way to school when he was attacked, a statement released by the school his mother works at said.
Sheryl Carter, who lives on Laing Close which is inside the police cordon at the scene, told MyLondon what she saw. She said: “It was four doors away, we heard it all. My daughter was about to go out. I said ‘It’s time you go out to school’, then she heard the screaming.
“I spoke to the police and they asked to see our Ring doorbell footage. I just thought this is crazy, I heard the police shout ‘drop it’ then I heard ‘we need to stop the bleeding’. Not long after I heard a scream which came from the mum. My neighbour saw her running and then she dropped and had to be held back by police.”

Sheryl said she heard Daniel’s mother say to a police officer: “I only spoke to him a minute ago.” She added: “They’re a really nice family, polite and quiet. They were always well dressed. He went a very good school.”
Daniel was on the way to Bancroft’s School where he was a year nine pupil according to a statement from a Holy Family Catholic School where his mother works as a science teacher. It read: “Dear Parents/Carers, It is with great sadness that I share with you the news of the death of the child of one of our staff members. Mrs Anjorin’s son was taken from this life suddenly this morning on his way to school. Please keep Mrs Anjorin, her husband and their other children in your prayers. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.”
Shocking images and footage from the scene have been shared online showing a man with a huge sword in Thurlow Gardens. Four other people were injured including two police officers. Heroic police officers Tasered the attacker 22 minutes after his rampage began as seen in a widely circulated video.
A local resident Ann Johnstone told MyLondon: “For the 14-year-old to die the way he did is tragic. The area has become more dangerous with the nearby shooting which happened a few months ago, it’s just like anywhere else in London. It’s like the Wild West.”
The attack took place just before 7am on Tuesday morning. The man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and was also taken to hospital with injuries.
A female police officer at the scene nearly lost her hand in the attack. The hero cop has been praised for Tasering the suspect and bringing the attack to an end.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley told LBC: “The first thing you have to say is for the parents involved, who’ve lost their 14-year-old, and that is just horrific, and it’s everyone’s worst nightmare. I’m sure we’re all thinking about them. We were on the ground in 12 minutes, and he was detained after 22 minutes. Obviously some of the first contacts led to officers being very severely injured.”
