Woman flies to Spain for date

How far would you go for a chance of finding true love?

From Romeo and Juliet to The Notebook, countless rom-coms tell us that distance is no obstacle when it comes to meeting your soulmate. And now, one Brit has put this ethos to the test, having flown to Spain for a Hinge date with a stranger.

Celeste Hartley, an online blogger, confessed she’d ‘never felt more alive’, when heading to Gatwick airport in the hopes of meeting perfect match on the other side. “This genuinely might be the most ‘for the plot’ thing I have ever done,” she told her thousands of TikTok followers (@celestehartley0).

“I’m going to fly to Spain to go on a Hinge date with someone that I’ve never met before. And, all I will say is, regardless of whatever happens over the next 48 hours…regardless of what happens between me and ‘said man’, it is worth it for how exciting this whole thing has been so far.”

While you may fear this is entirely unsafe, Celeste also assured that she had an ‘entire SWAT team’ ready to jump in and save her if the date was an utter disaster. But she was no doubt excited to see how things unfolded having never done anything like this before.

Unsurprisingly, Celeste’s post was met with hundreds of intrigued comments, with many users dying to know what actually went down when she landed. One person joked: “Can you imagine if he just sits there and plays Fifa?”

Another chimed in: “This feels like the start of a Netflix documentary,” as someone else chimed in: “I can’t even get a girl to meet me in the next major city 40 minutes away on a train.”

Answering her viewers prayers, Celeste then posted an update to the situation just this week. And while she said the ‘ending is to be confirmed’, the pair seemed to be getting along quite well.

At first, she claims the mystery man showed up in her favourite shade of blue as they swigged back what appeared to be sangrias at a bar. In the days following, they did a lot of walking and talking – and even got tattoos together.

She said: “This time last week, I got back from travelling to Spain to go on a Hinge date with someone I’d never met before. And that Hinge date just left my London flat… it’s gone very well.

“And I didn’t think this through to be honest, because now we’re still living in different countries. But, to be honest, I’m just so happy that I met him because he is honestly 10/10 human… we have plans to see each other again in a few weeks… it was worth making the jump.”

Celeste isn’t the only one to have flown abroad for a wild rendezvous, as others have also discussed their spontaneous dating experiences with The Mirror. Anonymously, one person shared: “I was on Tinder and connected with a French man.

“We got chatting and really liked each other, but I live in Leeds and he lives in Northern France. We tried to make a date to meet up in either London or France, but couldn’t get the diaries to sync, it turned out that we were both going to Silicon Valley on business at the same time, so we had our very first date in San Francisco.

“It was super exciting, as I was working all day at a clients offices and being very professional, but also slightly scared that I was meeting some random French man that night for dinner and couldn’t really tell anybody about it.”

On TikTok, another also added: “I went to Dublin (from England) and it did go well but I caught him snapchatting another girl whilst we were on a date.”
