Prince Harry is travelling to London next week and it is likely he will meet King Charles during his trip but probably he won’t see his brother, Prince William, a royal expert claims

Prince Harry’s reunion with his older brother Prince William next week is “in question” but a meeting with his father, King Charles, is “likely”, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex is travelling to the UK to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Harry, 39, will attend a ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to celebrate the event. It is not clear whether any member of the Royal Family will attend the occasion due to their commitments and ongoing health issues.

Last week, it was reported that King Charles would be “quite busy” during Harry’s visit, but ITV news royal editor Chris Ship said the monarch would likely “find a gap” in his schedule to meet his youngest son. However, Mr Ship said “the big question” is whether Harry will meet his brother William and sister-in-law Catherine.

The royal expert told Sky News Australia: “At some point, they’re going to find a gap in the King’s schedule. When he comes, he will probably see his dad.” Their meeting would be the first after Harry travelled to the UK when the monarch’s cancer diagnosis was announced publicly.

At the time, Harry did not meet his brother William and according to Mr Ship, a brotherly reunion is unlikely next week. Royal expert Tom Quinn said it is possible that a meeting between Harry and his father will be longer than the one they had back in February.

The author told us: “It’s going to be very difficult for Harry to come to the UK and not visit his stricken father, King Charles.” Harry rushed to London back in February after Charles’ cancer diagnosis was made public. It was the first time Harry had seen is father in months, but their reunion is said to have lasted just 30 minutes.

Quinn said: “When the two meet it will almost certainly be a longer meeting than last time when father and son spent just 30 minutes together, but Camilla is likely to be there simply because she feels so protective of her husband and won’t want him to be upset at such a difficult time. Also, despite much that has been written, Camila is exceptionally diplomatic and good at dealing with difficult situations and difficult people. If anyone can steer comfortably through a meeting with Harry, Camilla can – which is why Charles will want her there.”

The royal author suggested Charles will want to see Harry despite his illness as he “won’t want to be seen to be avoiding his son even if the meeting is awkward and difficult.” Quinn added: “Like William, Charles makes a point always to seem generous and magnanimous. He is aware that this contrasts well with his often-petulant son; Charles and Harry know that everyone will be watching to see if they meet and neither wants to be the one blamed for rejecting the other.”

The Duchess of Sussex will not travel with Harry for the Invictus Games anniversary celebration. Mr Ship confirmed the news on X, formerly known as Twitter. He said: “Additional confirmation this morning that Meghan will not be joining Harry for the Invictus Anniversary service at @StPaulsLondon in London. But the Duchess of Sussex will join the Duke for an Invictus-inspired visit to Nigeria immediately after Harry leaves the UK.”

A statement published on the Invictus Games’ social media accounts read: “The Invictus Games Foundation will celebrate 10 years of changing lives and saving lives with a ‘Service of Thanksgiving’ at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8th. We will be joined by our Patron, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, actor Damian Lewis and members of the worldwide Invictus Community to mark the occasion.”

While Meghan will be skipping the UK trip, she will join her husband on a visit to Nigeria. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting Nigeria in May for talks on the Invictus Games. During their stay, Harry and Meghan are expected to take part in cultural activities and meet with service members and their families.
