According to a royal expert and author, Meghan Markle ‘believes that as controversial Royals she and Prince Harry actually have more appeal’, which comes ahead of their Nigeria trip

Meghan Markle is said to “believe that as controversial Royals she and Prince Harry actually have more appeal”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020. Shortly after they announced that they intended to “become financially independent”, the couple then moved across the pond to the United States, with them setting up lives for themselves and their children in Montecito, California.

Living in their lavish mansion for almost four years, the couple has worked on several projects with the likes of Netflix, Spotify and Penguin Random House. Many of their projects have raised eyebrows, made headlines and caused controversy due to what they revealed about their time in the Royal Family.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, royal expert and author Tom Quinn has said that ahead of the couple’s trip to Nigeria this month, Meghan feels as though she has become a “Cinderella figure”, with her and Harry having “more appeal”.

“Meghan knows that much of the world still sees the Sussexes as members of the Royal family despite the fact that they are no longer working Royals,” Mr Quinn told us. He went on: “Their tour of Nigeria will be dressed up as a quasi-Royal visit – in fact, Meghan believes that as controversial Royals she and Harry actually have more appeal.”

He added: “She feels that people are more interested in them because, as she sees it, she has become a kind of Cinderella figure – a princess hurt and broken by a callous, cold, stuck-up Royal family.”

Concluding his thoughts, Mr Quinn said that he thinks Meghan is “completely deluding herself with this idea”, adding: “But the visit to Nigeria fits with her sense of mission, her sense that she can do a great deal of good in the world helping the poor, and women and children.”

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters previously announced that Harry and Meghan will soon visit Nigeria on a trip to West Africa. This will come after Harry’s brief to the United Kingdom after he was in attendance at St Paul’s Cathedral last night for an Invictus Games event.
