Dare we say it the hot weather has finally arrived in the UK, and now is the perfect time to give our wardrobes a little overhaul ready for the summer, and we think we’ve found the perfect addition to our closet just in time for the new season. White Company’s Linen Flute Sleeve Midi Dress, £110 here, combines two of our favourite things for hot weather; midi dresses and linen.
It’s universally acknowledged that midi dresses are a staple in any warm weather wardrobe, as not only are they a quick and easy head-to-toe outfit, but they’re also lightweight and breezy enough to keep you cool even when temperatures soar.
Linen is always a summer go-to because the material is breathable and moisture wicking, meaning it stops you from sweating and getting too hot. The White Company’s version is made from pure European flax linen, which has a light, floaty feel/
It also has the added bonus of a loose, oversized silhouette that’s perfect for staying comfortable in even the most humid of temperatures. It has a relaxed V-neckline and bib-style detail on the bodice which creates structure and shape without being fitted, whilst the softly gathered waist and flowy skirt make sure it stays super comfy to wear all day long.
To keep it looking chic and stylish, it also has voluminous flute sleeves which add a little hint of drama and accentuate the waist details, giving you a flattering shape despite how oversized and flowing it is. Oh, and how could we forget the best detail of all – side pockets. All in all, the perfect summer dress!
Shoppers have also been singing the praises of the summery dress, which comes in both cream and pale blue, with one saying: “Love linen, the design and colour – will have to shorten quite a bit as not tall as models tend to be but that’s nothing new. Bought one size smaller so fits well.”
Another said: “It’s a well-designed, attractive fit, soft linen dress which is perfect for summer. Relaxed, comfortable but smart and sophisticated at the same time.”
Whilst a third wrote: “Summer is time to leave jeans behind. The best dress is cool and casual…..an understated slip on to do errands and live beautifully. You got that!”
Other reviews mentioned that the dress did fit a little on the loose side, so if you’re not a big fan of the more oversized look you may want to opt for something a little slimmer fitting, like this Linen Rich Midaxi Shirt Dress, £39.50 here, from Marks and Spencer. Although not 100% linen like White Company’s version, the M&S dress is made from 55% linen and 45% cotton, which still ensures its lightweight, breathable and comfortable to wear.
It also has a classic shirt dress style design with more of a fitted, streamlined silhouette. Short sleeves make sure you don’t get too warm in the sun, whilst the collared neckline and button up front mean you could just as easily wear this for the office as you could for a picnic. If you’ve not already added a linen dress to your summer wardrobe, what are you waiting for?!
