A woman has shared her heartache after discovering the real reason why her male neighbour monitors her comings and goings from her house – restoring her faith in humanity
A woman’s heart shattered into a million pieces after discovering the real reason why her male neighbour is always watching her from his window. The divorced mum branded him as ‘creepy’ for watching her from behind closed doors whenever she leaves or enters her home – and became increasingly annoyed at his behaviour.
When she was entering her house one day, she made a comment to see his reaction – but rather than go straight to aggression, she thanked him for watching her. She said on Quora : “Years ago, my older male neighbour would watch me as I came and went. He knew my schedule along with his wife. I finally thanked him for seeing me into my house every evening.”
With this, he explained why he has been monitoring her movements every day – saying he simply wanted to keep an eye on her knowing she is divorced and living alone with her daughter. Touched to hear someone was looking out for her, she added: “Sometimes it can be annoying to have someone monitoring your comings and goings but it, also, be a lifesaver.
“I was thankful and still thankful for what they may have protected us from.” However, it turns out she isn’t the only person with a ‘guardian neighbour’ watching out for her wellbeing, as another user said: “In my 20’s I worked the 3p-11p shift at a local hospital. I noticed the neighbour across the street would watch me get out of the car and to my front door.
“I lived in Chicago and we had to park in the street. One day my parents told me that they couldn’t see my car from the house due to a huge evergreen tree so the neighbour would watch me until I got past the tree where he knew my parents would pick it up. Where I was annoyed at first I got warm fuzzies hearing that.”

Another user said: “The lady in the apartment next to mine would peek at me behind the curtain each time I went out on my balcony. I decided one day to smile and wave at her. I did that every time, and she began waving back.
“One day she called me and said, ‘I saw you sewing something on your balcony.’ I explained I was putting in a hem and invited her to come over. She was lonely and a little timid, and I think she just wanted to be friends. We waved and smiled all summer, and the ice was broken.”
