Marks and Spencer has launched a new cheeseburger pasta salad as part of their new Viva Summer range – the unique product has divided opinion online with one individual even calling for an apology

Food lovers have sparked debate on social media after Marks and Spencer’s newest offering – a cheeseburger pasta salad.

The new product, which one shopper has deemed a ‘culinary abomination’, is part of M&S’ new Viva Summer range which includes chicken tikka masala pasta, as well as a variety of dips from buffalo chicken, cheddar and bacon, as well as ‘green goodness’, reviewed by the Mirror.

The divisive product is a cheeseburger pasta salad – complete with beef meatballs, burger sauce, mayonnaise, and Red Leicester cheese, costing £3.90. The new product has divided opinion as some love the product, others loathing it. One individual, Matt Capon, has called out Marks and Spencer on X and asked for an apology. Writing via his page @MattLCapon, he said: “I think @marksandspencer owe the nation of Italy a contrite and unequivocal apology for this culinary abomination.”

Other social media users had their say, as one wrote: “What are they trying to do to this country?” One other said it “sounds rank”. A third added: “Wow. That’s mad isn’t it!

Commented on New Foods UK, one other said: “Anyone else sick of seeing cheeseburger everything? Pasta, tacos, and pizza.” “755kcals a pack – behave,” wrote another. But one other keen individual said: “I keep trying to get this but it’s out of stock.” “We need to try this,” another excited individual said.

Last week during an episode of ITV’s Loose Women, singer and TV star Frankie Bridge tucked into the pasta salad and said, “don’t knock it until you try it, it does taste like a burger.” Meanwhile other panellists seemed less impress. “That does not look like a salad to me,” said Nadia Sawalha.

Journalist and presenter Kaye Adams commented: “This is the cheeseburger pasta salad, which funnily enough has more calories than a regular cheeseburger.” The salad contains 755 calories compared with 493 for McDonald’s beloved Big Mac. “755 calories though, you could have the real thing,” one critic said.

An M&S spokesperson said: “Our new Cheeseburger Pasta Salad is a limited edition summer treat made from succulent British beef, Italian egg pasta, crunchy onions, cheese and our exclusive burger sauce dressing. It joins a huge selection in our food on the move range including healthy lunch choices across salads, pasta salads and sandwiches which are highlighted to customers through our Eat Well flower on pack. In the new summer range, this includes products such as our new Eat Well Chicken Taco Shake-a-Salad.”
