A 36-year-old woman is convinced her partner, who she’s been with for 17 years, is eyeing up her younger sister – and it’s turned her life as she once knew it completely upside down
One woman has been left crushed, having overheard her partner talking about their family member like ‘a piece of meat’.
Whether we like to admit it or not, we’ve probably all liked someone we’re not supposed to at one point. Perhaps you flirted with your personal trainer, or even a charming landlord in a bit of harmless fun.
But one anonymous ’36-year-old’ is convinced her partner of 17 years is eyeing up her sibling – and it’s turned her life upside down. The woman, who took anonymously to Reddit, claimed that up until now her relationship was almost perfect.
She’d met ‘Mike’, 38, when she was just 19 years old and he was not only sweet, but great at healthy communication, allowing her to feel completely natural around him. Unsurprisingly, he’s since become a big part of the family, spending a lot of time with her parents and sister, Daisy.
While the Redditor believes she personally isn’t unattractive, she’s still always felt a little insecure around Daisy. The younger sister is described as a popular ‘cliché cute blonde’, rendering the writer as just ‘mousy’ and not as beautiful in a ‘classic sense’.
More than that, Daisy and Mike actually have a surprising amount in common. They both like Billy Idol and the Kaiser Chiefs, while also being big sports and arts fans. Though, the writer never had a reason to suspect anything – until now.
“I came home from work early last week to hear Mike talking about my sister with his friends,” the writer confessed, while adding that all the names used are fake. “And quite frankly I’m offended on her behalf.
“They weren’t talking about her like a human but rather a piece of meat. My husband ended all these degrading comments with ‘but [my partner] is the love of my life’. Like, is that meant to make things better?”
What’s more, is that Mike has always paid a big interest in being friends with Daisy, who apparently ‘avoids him where possible’ because he’s ‘obnoxious’. She’s also been dating her girlfriend for a year, so getting cosy with her is seemingly off the table – but it’s still left the Redditor in a sticky situation.
The woman hasn’t yet confronted her partner or told any of this to her sister, but feels utterly baffled, asking the commenters for advice. In the midst of this, several people voiced their discomfort over the situation, while speculating that Daisy may be avoiding him for this very reason.
One person wrote: “Yeah… I think she either feels the ick around him or she has witnessed him in action. That’s one, your sister, and two, [he’s known] her since she was two years old and this is what he thinks of her.
“It’s really disgusting. I know some will argue … ‘locker room’ talk but, this is someone he has seen grow up. This is his wife’s sister.” Another also added: “Ew. He’s a creep towards your sister, and you allow it. How about you tell him to stop?”, while someone else chimed in: “If tomorrow something happened to you, I have no doubt your husband would be chomping at the bit to f***your sister.”
