When the new owners moved into the house they discovered the people who had lived there previously had left them little gifts all over the house – and it’s divided people

Buying a new home also means inheriting many of the designs and tastes of the previous property owner.

If you’re lucky, you’ll be happy to live in the house as you found it, whereas on other occasions you will need to start undertaking renovation work the minute you are handed the keys. But one house seller who left “little presents” for a buyer has divided opinion with the quirky additions to their home – with some saying they would be fuming to find them.

A viral video posted on Reddit shows three small painted pictures just above the skirting boards featuring characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, including Patrick Star walking through the door carrying a coat and briefcase. It racked up hundreds of comments after being shared with the caption: ‘Person just sold their house and is leaving some little presents for the next owners.’

Some viewers loved artwork, as one replied to say: “I’d keep ’em” with another agreeing: “Same. I love it actually.” But others didn’t agree as one person was met with a lot of support after asking: “I can’t be the only who would be annoyed by this, can I?” Someone else said: “They’re cute, but like… I don’t want to have to buy a whole bucket of paint just to cover them up.”

A second wrote: “Having them out in the open is dumb. Have them in the back of sink cabinets, in closets on the same wall as the door, or behind the fridge and washer. You want eventual surprises not move in annoyances. And a third added: “Hope those weren’t put up after the contract was on the house. Those would be annoying to cover up, and not a super fun surprise unless you were going to repaint (and those are nice neutral colors so might not need to otherwise).”
