Six years ago today, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. The couple now reside in America, with them raising their children in Montecito
Meghan Markle’s four-word response after the now-King Charles offered to walk her down the aisle was rather sweet – yet quite unconventional.
Six years ago to this day, Meghan walked down the aisle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor to marry Prince Harry. The Sussexes tied the knot in the chapel at Windsor Castle, with them surrounded by their friends and loved ones as the world watched the televised event.
But before she made it down the aisle, the news that Meghan’s father Thomas was not attending made headlines. And because Thomas did not attend, and because there was no invite for her Air Force veteran uncle Michael, the then-Prince of Wales offered to walk her down the aisle.

Her reply was not quite what he expected: “Can we meet halfway?”, she asked, according to a biography of The Queen by Robert Hardman. The response “was an indicator that this was no blushing bride, but a confident, independent woman determined to make a grand entrance on her own”, the author noted in the tome.
Meghan famously walked herself halfway down the aisle before meeting her father-in-law-to-be who then accompanied her for the second half of her journey to meet her groom. And when Meghan reached Charles, he had a tender six-word question for her.
Upon meeting Meghan at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, Charles said: “You look lovely, are you OK?” As Meghan entered the chapel surrounded by sunlight, guests gasped in awe. Charles then met Meghan halfway down the chapel, escorting her to Prince Harry.
When Meghan reached Harry, he gushed: “You look amazing, I missed you.” Harry then said to his father: “Thank you pa.”
While Harry was surrounded by many members of the Royal Family, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, had flown from California and was the only member of her family present. Meanwhile, Meghan’s father Thomas did not attend saying he wanted to spare the couple any embarrassment after an incident that saw him pose for paparazzi pictures as he prepared for the big day.
Since getting hitched, Harry and Meghan have moved from England to America. They have resided in Montecito, California for almost four years, with their move across the pond coming just mere months after they announced they would be stepping down from their roles as senior working members of the Royal Family.
