As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary on Sunday, we take a look back at the big day with body language expert Darren Stanton analysing their moves
Today marks six years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot – and it’s fair to say the first years of their marriage have been eventful.
And while little could have prepared the couple then for quite how much of a rollercoaster the coming years would be, Harry’s body language on the day certainly indicated a few nerves. The fairytale event saw them marry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor before the newlyweds waved to crowds in their journey back to Windsor Castle for a lavish celebration.
Body language experts have analysed the couple’s tell-tale signs of what was going through their heads on the big day, and the two could not have had more opposite dispositions ahead of their nuptials. According to expert Darren Stanton, Harry showed signs of nerves ahead of the ceremony, while Meghan was “calm and confident”.
Of course, with having your wedding televised to millions around the world, it’s little surprise Harry may be feeling the nerves set in. Speaking on behalf of Betfair Live Casino, Darren revealed Harry’s fears appeared to be immediately put to rest when Meghan walked down the aisle alongside her father-in-law to-be.
Darren said: “Harry was feeling nervous on his wedding day. He displayed a few nervous smiles, but they were portraying genuine emotion. He tried to convey confidence, but his nerves took control. When he was waiting at the altar with William, you could see his face flushing, as his cheeks went red. But when Meghan arrived, he was more relaxed and could be more at ease with himself.
“Meghan was calm and confident on her wedding day with no nervousness. She was very collected and everything seemed to fall into place as she arrived. She took the lead and had a lot of control. Her posture was aligned, she held her head high and her smiles were fully engaged. These are all signs of feeling at peace and confident about themselves. Meghan puts Harry at his ease.”
Speaking on how their relationship has developed since their wedding day, the expert also touched on how the couple have gone from strength to strength, and appear to have each other’s backs as husband and wife. He said: “When we look at Harry and Meghan as a couple, they are very compatible together.
“They balance out each other’s personalities perfectly. When they were having their photos taken after the ceremony, their gestures with one another showed how they had a passionate but very trusting relationship. They were tactile with each other, which speaks volumes about their trust levels as a couple. They know each other inside out and it comes across as completely natural.”
