A woman has shared her top tip for how to reply to someone who cancels plans with you at the last minute – although she admits it is ‘toxic’, many have called her a ‘genius’

Sometimes those who cancel dates need to know exactly what they’re missing out on.

Getting ready to go out on a date is an exciting and often nerve-wracking experience. You don’t know what to expect from your night ahead but you hope it’s going to be good, and maybe you’ll even find that the person you’re meeting is “the one”. But then, just as you’re putting the finishing touches on your outfit, you get the dreaded text – your date has cancelled.

It’s a horrible feeling, especially if you were excited to go out, and it can leave us not quite knowing what to say. Fear not, though, because one woman has come up with the perfect way to respond to a flaky date – and although it might be a little bit “toxic”, it’s been hailed as “genius” by other women.

In a video shared to her @absolut_efi account on TikTok, Efi explained that if you ever find that your potential partner has cancelled on you at the last minute, you simply need to text him “okay”, and then wait a few minutes.

Once you feel as though sufficient time has passed, there’s only one more step – text him again but pretend as though the message was for someone else. Efi said: “Then text him ‘Actually I’m free tonight’, and then say ‘Oops wrong person’.” The woman ended her message with a joke hashtag encouraging women to “stay toxic”.

The text is designed to make your date think you’re not affected by them cancelling plans at the last minute, which may make them start to make more of an effort to win you over.

Commenters on the post were split, however. Some believed the woman’s approach was “genius”, while others said it was “too obvious” and would end up in the date knowing exactly what you’re up to. One person commented: “Queen behaviour!” While someone else argued: “Too obvious … best revenge is not even a reply. Leave the read receipts on though, so he knows you saw and didn’t care.”

Others were quick to share what they do in similar situations, with one writing: “I always reply ‘Alrightie’ [and then] 45 minutes later, post [on social media] holding a drink. See him ask ‘Did you go out?'” Another also shared: “Just say ‘wait, we had plans tonight?’ then leave them on read, stay toxic.”

There were also several commenters who simply said they wouldn’t waste their time on someone who cancelled plans at the last minute. One said: “Nah, say ‘no problem catch you some other time’ and never answer them again.”
