This latest discovery is one that has blown the minds of many users on the site who couldn’t quite believe they had never realised that the little metal disc served an actual purpose and wasn’t just a design feature. TikTok user Kyran explained the very handy use behind the little hole in detail in his eye-opening video shared with users on the app.
The influencer said: “If you go under your sink, you’ll see it’s got a little clip you can untie. Make sure you untie this and take out the metal circle like that so it leaves a hole there. I bet you’re wondering, ‘Why’s that hole there, Kyran? Why is it there?’ I’m about to show you right now.
Kyran then fitted a bottle of washing-up liquid with a handy pump into the hole, explaining: “So you get a bottle and you want to fill it up with your fairy liquid. Now what you want to do is put this here, screw it in tight to keep it in place and then you just want to grab your bottle of fairy liquid, pop it at the bottom and start screwing it in and now look how easy it is to get soap on your sponge.”

If that wasn’t enough, some users viewing the content then shared their own take on the little hole is actually there for as they offered up a sensible alternative theory. The general opinion appeared to be that the hole is there so that taps can be fitted on either side of the sink.
One social media user commented: “It’s a tap hole so, you can have the drainer left or right. They come with cover plate.” A second agreed: “If you fit the sink the other way round you will fit your taps there. Good hack though.” A third said: “It’s simply a tap hole that makes the sink reversible.”
