Shannon Mitchell, from Belfast, shared a little known car ‘hack’ in a video on TikTok, which has since gone viral – as people can’t believe they never knew

People have been left gobsmacked after a woman revealed a car ‘hack’ that she swears nobody knew about.

Shannon Mitchell, from Belfast, was stunned when her boyfriend clued her in on the trick, which he thought was common knowledge. In a TikTok video, Shannon showed off the surprising hack. She captioned the clip: “I feel like I own a transformer now.”

Shannon said: “Please be honest with me if you knew this was a thing, because I only found out yesterday, and I’ve just tried it on my car and it’s just worked, and I am flipping shook. My boyfriend seems to think everyone knows this, but I didn’t, so I’m convinced there’s other people that don’t know.”

She then explained how she accidentally leaves her car window open after turning off the engine and stepping out. “So you get out of your car and you lock your car, you then realise, ‘oh, s**, I have left my windows down,'” she said. Shannon shared that her boyfriend taught her a hack to close the windows without having to unlock and restart the car. By double clicking the lock button and then holding it down, the windows automatically roll back up, reports Wales Online.

She added: “Please tell me I’m not the only person that didn’t know about this. And when you see this, it gets better, you can actually put them down as well, just watch.”

Shannon’s video, where she simply held down the unlock button and her windows smoothly opened, has drawn more than 166,200 views, earned 11,800 likes, and provoked 367 comments. Commentators were split between astonishment over this convenient little ‘hack’ and those claiming it’s common knowledge.

Megan Eva Jane said: “I wish my car was this high tech, I still have roll windows in the back.” MD’s Wax Melts responded: “I thought everyone knew this,” whereas Robyn H declared, “I need to try this.” Eimear Brennan expressed his surprise with, “There is no wayyy.”

Jasmine Castagner revealed how much time this simple trick managed to save her: “Omg this saves me so much TIME when I’m already sweating, thank you.” And Paulina confirmed it also worked for her: “I just tried this and can confirm it worked on my 2010 polo.”

Several other viewers experimented with the hack themselves like Shauna who wrote in with an additional hint: “Omg I just tried that and it worked. Also if ur opening the car, hold the button in and the windows go down.”
