A woman has taken to social media to share the name her boyfriend has picked out for their firstborn son – and it has left her second-guessing the name she wants to give to their daughter

A woman has shared her disgust after hearing the name her boyfriend wants to give to their child – making her cringe with embarrassment.

Despite not being pregnant, the woman has been discussing baby names with her boyfriend after a “wise old lady” came to her in a dream with a suggestion. She said on Reddit: “She told me I’m pregnant and to name my daughter ‘Aurora’ and I was like ‘Uh well, it’s going to be hard for a kid to pronounce their name because of the closeness of the Rs and what if my kid has a speech impediment? And the wise lady just insisted.

So I was like ‘What about Charlotte?’ And she was like ‘I mean I guess but I won’t be happy about it’ so I was like ‘Damn… all right then’. (I’m a people pleaser).” After waking up, she started thinking about the name more and more and now says it has “grown on her”.

  • ‘Entitled mum orders I wake her son up before school run – I taught her a lesson’
  • ‘I caught my mum sleeping with my husband – I can’t erase the image from my mind’
  • She said: “It just feels like what the kid’s name is supposed to be. I’m not even pregnant this is just in anticipation of a child in the future. I always wanted to name a daughter Violet or Ruth, and I’m pretty indifferent to any boy names.”

She told her boyfriend about the dream and he argued if she gets to name the first child then he gets to name the second one. He went on to pick out the name Decalyn, an alternative spelling to Declan, much to her horror. She said: “That name sounds ridiculous. There’s no way he actually sincerely likes that name – but he insists. So I was like yeah I won’t name my future daughter Aurora if that’s what the compromise has got to be. Sorry wise old lady.”

Seeking public opinion on the two names, she has taken to social media to ask users what they think of them. In response, one user said: “I would read that name as Deck-ah-lynn.” Another user added: “Declan is a real name. It’s Irish. If you’re going to use it go with the original spelling.” A third user said: “You could also compromise and stop having children after Aurora. But anyway, baby names should be two yes or one no, not taking turns.” One more user added: “I have a Declan. Please spell it correctly if you’re going with that name. Spelling it with -lyn is just weird.”
