The date for Eid ul-Adha 2024 has been announced in Saudi Arabia. The sight of the crescent moon eluded all ten of Saudi Arabia’s moonsighting observatories, but a subsequent spotting was reported from Al Hareeq with the Supreme Court validating this result and formally announcing a positive moonsighting.

This sighting kicks off the month of Dhul Hijjah, which is then followed by significant occasions such as Day of Arafah (9th day), the start of Eid ul-Adha (10th day), and the days marking the Hajj pilgrimage (8th to either the 12th or 13th).

This means Dhul Hijjah begins on Friday, June 7, with Eid ul Adha on Sunday, June 16. The Day of Arafah is on Saturday, June 15. It also determines the dates of the Hajj pilgrimage as June 14 to 18/19, reports Birmingham Live.

Do you fast during Dhul Hijjah?

During Dhul Hijjah, some scholars advise using this time to do good deeds, such as giving to charity. Many choose to fast during this time for the first nine days, including on the Day of Arafah. Islamic Relief advises that if you can’t fast for the whole nine days, you should try your best on the ninth day. Fasting is prohibited on Eid ul-Adha.
