Canadian funnyman Kevin Finn, who appeared on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, has been ‘confused’ by a common phrase Brits use while they are on holiday – and many feel it’s totally accurate
There’s no doubt Brits exhibit strange behaviours when they’re on holiday – and no doubt many people will feel targeted by this latest observation from a Canadian.
From having a pint at the airport at 7am to bringing tea bags from home, Brits who are in ‘holiday mode’ definitely have certain rituals they can’t do without. And with summer just around the corner, there’s one common phrase Brits will be using – but you may not have given it much thought until now.
Kevin Finn, a Canadian comedian living in London, pointed out there’s one particular phrase Brits use when they are on holiday which gives them the license to do “whatever they want”. Taking to TikTok, Kevin explained he has been living in the UK for 10 months, and is “confused” by a certain British behaviour.
Kevin, who appeared on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, continued: “I’ve learned of a thing that people in the UK do called city breaks, which is great. Never happens in Canada because it’s 27 hours to get anywhere.” So he decided to go on a ‘cheeky holiday’ and when he was at Manchester airport he realised “people in the UK lose all sense of self restraint once they walk in the airport”.
Once Kevin, who regularly uses regional British accents in his set, was on the plane, he noticed there was one particular phrase people would use. “I’ve never heard so many people use the phrase ‘well, I’m on my holiday’, just to do whatever they want to do,” he said.
During the short flight to Greece, he claimed he saw one woman have “nine little bottles of wine, every time, ‘well, I’m on my holiday, might as well pop another’. And another man behind me said, ‘well, let’s see, gonna get tattoos right, we’re on our holiday, might as well”.
It’s safe to say the video struck a cord with people, and has been seen over 1.9million times so far. Over 1,600 people commented on it, with many telling Kevin his English accent was “spot on”.
Another commented: “As a Brit, I can say nothing in this video is an exaggeration,” and a third confirmed his theory: “Nothing counts on holiday lad.” “Yeah the minute we’re in the airport car park we’re on holiday,” said another.
