Online marketplaces are a hub for bargains, and sometimes you might ask for a lower price out of curiosity to see whether the item you want is in budget – but you could open yourself up to a sassy reply

Selling things online can be a minefield, and sometimes you’ll get bizarre messages from chancers who are desperate for a bargain.

Everybody wants to land things cheaply and it can be something to boast about when you bag something expensive for a really reasonable price – but when one person inquired about the price of a bike, the last thing they expected was a sassy response.

The @NoContextBrits account on X, formerly Twitter, shared a screenshot of the hilarious WhatsApp exchange. Someone wrote: “Is the bike still for sale?” And the person selling it simply replied: “Yes”. However, things then took a rather humorous turn.

The bargain-hunter then asked: “What’s the lowest you can go on it?” And rather than responding with a price, the seller sent a side-splitting response. They penned: “About 2mph. Any less and you’ll tip over.”

Reacting in the comments section, one X user joked they were “taking notes” for the next time they sold something online – and it prompted other people to share their funny experiences from flogging things on the internet.

Someone else responded: “Absolutely brilliant, I currently have a bike for sale online and have been asked this a couple of times, I can’t wait for the next one to ask me!” Another X user penned simply: “Love it.”

One person shared an exchange from when they were selling a TV, in which the potential buyer asked: “Are you still selling the 30-inch TV?” They replied: “No, sorry. I sold it a few days ago.”

The person who wanted a TV then proceeded to offer $200 (£160), then $250 (£197), despite the fact they were told it was no longer for sale. The seller said: “I literally do not have it.” And the buyer replied: “Then don’t waste my time”.
