A teenager has shared the unusual name his friend is giving to his son after striving to come up with a moniker that combines his faith and wanderlust – but many social media users think it’s idiotic

A teenager has been left scratching his head after hearing the ‘unique’ name his best friend is giving to his son. He explained how his friend, who is a “devout Christian and traveller”, came to learn he and his wife were going to be parents about five months ago.

Knowing he wanted to give his son a unique moniker, the friendship group started brainstorming names and sharing them with him. He said on Reddit: “We’ve been deliberating over a way for him to be able to combine his faith and his wanderlust into a fitting name for his child.”

But he couldn’t believe the name he settled on – sharing his concern for the child who has to put up with the moniker for life. He added: “What did he end up coming up with? Questopher. A mix of Christopher and Quest.

“I had recommended Miles (Judeo-Christian middle name) (Last name). Nope. He landed on Questopher. ‘Surely his wife won’t approve of this,’ I had thought. Wrong! She loves it. I’m hoping for the best for this child. Godspeed, Questopher.”

While most users couldn’t help but laugh at the name, others shared their thoughts on the unusual moniker. One user said: “Questopher sounds like they’ve decided ahead of time that he will be in speech therapy.”

Another user added: “It’s ironic that, as a devout Christian, he removed and replaced the part about Christ. The name now means “bearer/carrier of a quest.” A third user said: “Please never refer to him as Christopher. What up Quest my boy!”

One more user added: “The funny thing is, Saint Christopher is already the patron saint of travellers! So there was literally no need to bastardise that perfectly good name into this abomination for “extra meaning”… That link to travel was already there.”

A fifth user said: “The name is stupid. We all know it. Your friends know it. But the more this gets pointed out to them, the more they will dig in. I suggest taking a different approach. Point out that by giving their child a name that no one else has is that no one else has it. Their child will be incredibly easy to victimise online.

“They will be easy to steal their identity. Easy for any angry ex or stalker to find. The truth is that little Quest will likely go by Chris just to have some anonymity. It’s the burden of a dumb celebrity baby name without the celebrity money or connections to carry it off.

“Perhaps your friends plan to homeschool baby Quest and prevent him from going online. But sooner than they think, they won’t be able to control that. The goal of a good parent is to make your child’s transition into adulthood as smooth as possible. Not be their first bully by setting them up from day 1 to be victimised.”
