The new speed cameras are so advanced that they don’t even need to flash when they catch you speeding – and they work any time day or night in any weather without needing to flash

A new breed of ‘ultra’ speed cameras on UK roads are so advanced they don’t even flash when triggered – operating day or night in any weather condition.

These high-tech devices use infra-red light to read number plates in low light, eliminating the need for road markings and making them harder to spot. They can monitor both sides of the road simultaneously, catching out drivers for speeding, seatbelt violations, and mobile phone use at the wheel.

Smaller than traditional yellow boxes, these cameras are more difficult to identify. They can detect if you’ve run a red light or if you’re using your phone while driving. The cameras utilise AI technology to scan cars for accuracy.

This video system identifies potential infringements like phone use at the wheel, then passes it onto a human for review, similar to VAR. These cameras are already operational in Devon, Wales, Cornwall, and Manchester. One camera in Cornwall issued an astonishing 3,280 tickets in its first week, equating to 234 fines a day, reports the Express.

Of course, there is one fail-safe trick to avoid triggering speed cameras: keep an eye on speed limits and don’t speed.
