A woman believed she was dating the ‘perfect’ man before she jumped into bed with him for the first time – as having sex revealed one gross trait she wishes she hadn’t noticed

They say nobody’s perfect, and one woman is just finding out why that’s true.

Navigating the world of dating is no easy task. We all have an idea of what we want in a partner, but finding the “perfect” person is almost impossible. You might find someone who shares the same hobbies as you but who leaves the toilet seat up all the time, or bag the most caring partner who always forgets to take the bins out.

But one woman is unsure whether she can make the compromise needed to keep seeing her partner after she discovered his gross secret that only made itself known when they slept together for the first time.

In a post on Mumsnet, the woman explained she has been on a few dates with the man over the past couple of months and “really likes” him so far. However, the pair had sex for the first time earlier this month, and she noticed one huge problem – he has a “bad smell”.

The woman said she found the stench “off-putting”, but doesn’t know how to bring it up with her new partner because she doesn’t want to offend him. She added in follow-up posts that she can’t smell anything when she’s with him on fully clothed dates, and described him as “quite well presented”, so she doesn’t believe it’s anything to do with him not showering or being unhygienic.

And although she said her partner is a “decent guy”, she doesn’t think she can deal with his bad odour “long term”, so she’s now considering ending their romance. She explained: “It’s a strong, off-putting smell that is giving me the ick, to be honest.”

Commenters on the post were split on the issue. Some told the woman to “just end it” as they strongly believe “smell compatibility is absolutely essential”. However, others said she should give the bloke “another shot” as it might have been a one-off, and she could risk throwing away a brilliant romance.

The woman responded: “Yeah I’ll give it another go. It’s just a really weird but strong smell, it’s not anything in particular that I notice, I just know I don’t like it and have never smelt a man before like this. Sounds weird, I think it’s a stale sweat smell.

“I’m not sure how [I should tell him], or is [it a] lost cause if he can’t be bothered to have a good wash before a date?! He’s lovely otherwise and we get along great.”

One other commenter came up with a creative solution, stating: “Suggest having a shower/bath together next time. At least you would know he is clean.”
