The Royal Family put on a united front as they stepped out together for the 2024 Trooping the Colour – but Queen Camilla had something on her mind, according to a former royal butler

Queen Camilla had one major concern as she joined her husband King Charles for his official birthday parade, according to a former royal butler.

The Royal Family stepped out in force on Saturday for Trooping the Colour, which saw Princess Kate return to the fold for the first time since sharing news of her cancer diagnosis in March.

Camilla sat by her husband’s side in a horse-drawn carriage as they left Buckingham Place ahead of the military procession. In previous years, the monarch has ridden his own steed but changes were made in light of his cancer diagnosis.

And according to former butler Grant Harrold, Camilla had something on her mind as proceedings got underway.

He told SpinGenie: “The King would have enjoyed today’s events and that they have gotten through it. I noticed that Camilla got a bit worried about the weather. But they are a good team and work well together just like William and Catherine and it reminds me of the late Queen and Prince Philip.”

The inclement weather didn’t stop royal fans from braving a downpour in the capital to watch the Trooping celebrations, with a sea of umbrellas filling the Mall outside Buckingham Palace .

And there were great cheers as the royals appeared on the balcony to watch a spectacular flypast by the Red Arrows – the culmination of the day’s events.

It was an emotional day for the King, who made a moving confession to his wife as they waved to crowds en route to Horse Guards Parade at the start of the day.

Turning to Camilla as they travelled in their Ascot Landau carriage, Charles sweetly remarked: “Oh dear, I don’t know why I’m feeling rather tearful.”

Royal fans were delighted to see both Charles and his daughter-in-law Kate looking so well in light of their respective cancer battles. They stood side-by-side on the balcony of the Palace, and smiled and chatted with each other throughout their appearance.

“He has always had a very good bond with her,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith previously told PEOPLE about the rapport between the King and Kate. “I don’t think it is presumptuous to say that she is like the daughter he never had. He shares with William an impulse to protect her. They are in this together, Kate and the King.”

Princess Kate announced her plans to attend Trooping the Colour in a personal letter shared 24 hours earlier, with the King expressing his joy at her decision.

“His Majesty is delighted that The Princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events, and is very much looking forward to all elements of the day,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said.
